Eurofighter vs Rafale battlefield

She will only disappoint you and break your heart

i mean im comparing this pesa to mech/other pesas of similar era, if you would want to compare rafale aesas, then you would have to go with su-57. and su-57 literally gets 4 x-band aesa radars (not going to include L-band aesas, meant for different things), so it’s kinda not a fair comparison, it blows it outta the water. and they’re of similar time frame, as aesa su-57 went into service in 2019 and so did f3r if i remember right

Su 57 began its industrialization in the 2000s ? Could have sworn it was in the end 2010s, start of the 2020s

Not to mention the necessary caution required when dealing with russian claims

f3r entered service in 2019 i think? so did su-57 (although first one crashed in delivery flight lol) so technically 2020.
first su-57 prototype flew in 2010, started pak fa (su-57 project) in 2003 ish

Nah

F3R ? Weren’t we talking about PESAs ?

RBE2 AESA entered in service in 2013s for the first series anyway, not 2019

And Rafale A flew in the 80s, spin it the way you want, there’s always a bit less than 2 decades of difference between the 2.

Su57s radar is indeed a nice progress though, i won’t say the contrary

i mean compared to irbis e rafale pesa is nothing, even rafale aesa pales in comparison to it. im just going off the data in the rafale thread tho, i havent actully looked into rafale radar stuff to see its real stats

rafale radar

it seems pretty damn pitful in terms of sheer power, its number of tracked targets though is pretty darn good tho

Blue Vixen entered service in 1993 on the Sea Harrier FA2 and was considered a AN/APG-73 equivalent with a fraction of the size. So development must have been from late 1980s? I think as a direct response to the Falklands

The RAAF nearly chose it for their F-18s and iirc, did perform better, but the intergration costs were too high.

(I want to say Blue Vixen was actually in early development before then, as a contender to the Foxhunter, but dont quote me on that)

After doing some more research, I’m not gonna lie, I think n011 was the best mech scan radar of all time, even better than captor m. The thing is, that radar is 650 kg, compared to captors m 200 kg. and it barely matches/exceeds it in most metrics
n011 stats from my suggestion post

So wieght for weight. Its not, but just carried by sheer mass.

it’s just so damn big lol. captor m was certainly more advanced if you’re talking about actual efficiency, pretty damn impressive considering how small it is. so surprised its only around 200 kg, thought it would definitely be around the same size as n011 considering how good it is

A Tale old as time

French planes smaller → Smaller radar → Less range (still sufficient either way)
But good signal processing usually.

Regarding RBE2 PESA, from public sources its range is basically the same as the RDI, so 110km (i will remind you the current AESA in game has less range than RDI currently)

RBE2 AESA is stated to have doubled that, so about 200-220 kms

yeah. Seems like it would be on par with su-57 radar if it was just as big (su-57 radar has a bit more than double its trms on its main radar for a bit less than double the range, and a bit less than 3x considering all of its radars)

basically yes

Ive heard enough, its time to bring back the vulcan with a massive aesa

Yeah, bigger is usually better.

Spoiler

Though there is a funny event during the Bosnia conflict where a flight of FA2s detected low flying aircraft and asked for permission to engage, the air commander in an AWAC, couldnt see these aircraft and denied the engagement. When shown proof later, he gave standing orders that if the FA2s see a threat, then believe them.

i mean it is slightly older, with it being a late 80s/early 90s radar. while captor m is like early to late 90s (depending if you want to include vixen or not). Not sure when captor m radar was actually put onto a test plane

For fighter sized targets or anything?

anything

Fighter sized targets the given number is usually 150km, but the sources are not very solid

Thales is planing on increasing the detection range by 70% on RBE2 XG, so about… 250 for a jet fighter and 340 for anything ?

Whilst true, though can certainly traces its roots back to the Blue Vixen.
