Eurofighter vs Rafale battlefield

Here in Canada we usually use metric (km and other stuff) unless it’s weights for some reason lol

So weight, heat and lack of processing power.
CAPTOR has more processing power weighs less and uses less power

One last very overlooked aspect (because not in game) is LPI and Jamming resistance

LPI is available for M-Scans. Foxhunter even has an LPI Mode

CAPTOR-M iirc is also very capable both offensively and defensively with ECM. Especially when combined with the (iirc) AESA based ECM that is part of the DASS

It’s also not a fair comparison, Russian Radars are designed to cover large areas and detect targets from long range, similar to how an F-14 would operate.

CAPTOR is designed to give good detection ranges but also attack other Radars. It is designed to be able to function through jamming and able to map air and ground targets (something Russian radars struggle with)

The early Radar on the Su-27 could in fact be jammed by Foxhunter. Russian Radar technology while good was and is not multi faceted it is very much designed for a singular purpose.
IRBIS has changed this and brought the Russian radars to a similar level.

Oh yeah, forgot about that :D

It’s possible the russians did not use the AESA / PESA to its full extent, I’m not familiar enough with those.

Regarding Rafale though, the RBE2 AESA is part of the Spectra suite, it’s not just a radar and can also do jamming

CAPTOR has very impressive data processing and is one of the reason the backend system was chosen for F-35.

I mean so does RBE2 or any radar today i suppose ?

Besides, when it comes to terrain mapping, the M2k already had that functionnality, it was just improved on PESA and then AESA

True but CAPTOR isn’t of the time it’s a much older system than RB-E2

su-35 is about as powerful as you can get with a pesa, it’s probably most powerful radar itw in terms of raw power

20KW

Both started industrialization in the middle of the 1990s though ?

Man… give Su-35 already

afaik blue vixen was built in the early 90s, idk about pesa of rafale

Power is nice, but it’s not the whole stroy

If you don’t have a good CPU to do solid signal processing behind, you won’t get far

its raw power allows it to have insane range, 400 km for a mig 29 ish target

here’s some irbis e trials if anyone wants to watch

But can only track 4 ground targets
These are the differences

Power is impressive and allowed Russia to use R-37M BVRAAMs to great effect.

Range is just a part of what constitutes a solid awareness

Number of target tracked, terrain following, GMTI and many other things are as if not more important, depending on the mission given.

If you want to say RBE2 AESA has a shorter range, sure, the dish is smaller, so are the rules of physics, but range alone does not tell the whole story.

If you want a long range radar produced by Thales, you can look for Sea fire 500 or Ground Fire 300, spoiler alert, the range’s in the name
