I understand that, but single individual sensors in the SPECTRA system may not be able to, or may only be able to provided a degraded quality track.
DASS, much like SPECTRA is simply an umbrella term for a multitude of self defense sensors. The thing Direct asked was related to the LWS specifically, which is a component of both DASS (on the British EFT) and SPECTRA. The LWS by itself can likely only provide azimuth/elevation, but not range, it would need other sensor data input for range.
Triangulation is a possible answer for LWS only ranging tbf.
It seems that Abrams, and other tanks are not only able to triangulate laser sources, but they are even able to identify laser sources! So it is possible not only to triangulate their location so you can drop a FnF weapon on their position, but can identify who it was.
Here’s Spectra doc stating it can identify laser sources:
i wonder when they will add cooperaton between ground and air forces, like being able to lock onto scouted targets through map, buddy lasing, and using LRF triangulation to call in airstrikes
That isn’t the point, it would depend on what type of weapon firstly. The thing I was referring to has more to do with what DirectSupport is talking about. I believe we have had conversations about this in the past.
@DirectSupport In-service Abrams tanks are not yet equipped with such LWS sensors. It was a planned upgrade for SEPV4 but it is long overdue and thoroughly tested.
Gaijin keeps rejecting any sort of man-in-the-loop mechanisms or anything remotely close to that, so may be a forgone conclusion. I think at this point they reject anything that doesn’t solely come down to individual players’ knowledge and skill level.
CAS is already much too strong, and the maps are much too small for this to be needed unfortunately.
Imo the problem has become that GFRB just cant compete with modern CAS in any real way. More advanced systems could only really be added to air only gamemode, and only have any real value in air sim at this point.
Gaijin should start relegating weapons and functions to air only modes for the health of GFRB imo. This would allow them to keep adding new and realistic features and weapons without ruining the game balance and experience of ground players.
I dont think the game should sacrifice ground players experience for the power fantasies of air players. If you wanna feel like a battlefield dominating god, play air sim and wipe 20 ground vehicles from the map in one pass without making other players miserable.
That’s already easy enough to do, i always ask if there’s a light tank to go mark pantsirs with drone so i can kill them.
I think that slave to lws feature would rarely ever get used anyway, and they will probably add slaving to rwr before that anyway.
You could do the same with jets (such as buddy lasing). I dont know why you’re so adamant on bringing up game breaking and inherently unfun mechanics for ground players in every single forum thread you show up in.
I was specifically on the LWR sensors of the spectra. You have 1 sensors on the rear, 2 on the front, and with some overlap triangulation is possible. I was asking for the LWR sensors of the DASS on the EFT specifically.
Triangulation is at least used on ground vehicles such as the EBRC Jaguar as it has 2 360° sensors and they are said to be able to specifically pinpoint a threat. It appears to me as the only way to accurately determine the range of a laser emission without having prior knowledge on the type of laser and its emitting power. Alternatively, there might be a database, just like RWR, to get approximate ranges, just like RWR are capable of giving. Both radar and laser emission are electromagnetic emissions. If we are capable of getting approximate ranges with one of them, surely the other is also possible
