Eurofighter Typhoon (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion

that’s pretty standard for top rank stuff iirc

I only did a couple game with the EF for now, and I feel like I’m using the russian TWS. It keep seeing enemies that doesn’t exists and it feels like it take forever to refresh. The FA2 radar is much better by comparison, let alone the F3’s.

Or the Rafale’s for that matters.

I’ll use it a bit more, but seriously, if they consider this final, I’d take the Su27SM (or any F15) over this plane because at least the TWS HDN exists on it.

Really fun having my AIM120 blow up under my wing as I launch them and results in me dying

Yeah, its clear that regardless of the scan rate debate. Something is fundementally broken with the CAPTOR-M at the moment

Yes, I saw it, I’m happy for them.

Blue vixen is also incorrectly modeled as a 3 axis radar, when it should only have 2 mechanical axis - Elevation and Azimuth
The roll axis is instead stabilized electronically, not mechanically.

This effectively means the output signal of the radar is capable of ful 360 degree rotation, not just the +/- 60-70 degrees currently implemented.

Source: GEC Review Vol9 No.3 (1994)

The maximum gimbals speed of the servos is 300 degrees/sec and can accelerate at 2000°/s ²
The scan rate is however programmed to be fixed to 60 degrees/sec. There is clearly significant room for improvement in the scan rate if the manufacturer wanted to increase the speed for the ERC90, which may be using more powerful servos and control systems due to the larger antenna (Which is actually very lightweight)

War Thunder does not seem to simulate maximum servo speed and acceleration as it appears to be infinite.

I thought a bit… How does the snail configure RBE2? As I understand it, the radar is configured according to the principle:

  1. There is a declassified source
  2. If there is no such source, the closest “relative” is taken
Hence two questions - are there really declassified documents on the newest radar? And if not, who is the closest relative of this AESA?

It’s not the same situation as they have plenty of data for the RBE2 PESA, going from PESA to AESA is a really small jump compared to Captor-M to Captor-E

Loving how we’re getting the steady stream of content creators saying the radar is bad and ‘definitely not finished’ or ‘expecting it to have some work soon’

Then you get what’s been said by Gaijins staff in this thread… “radar is fine lol deal with it… don’t leak those secret documents though!”

How did Сaptor-E come about? I just asked - how does a snail tune the Rafalе radar? Are there really documents for it, but not for the ECR-90?

Yes, there is information pertaining to the RBE2 PESA, itself a minor distinction from the RBE2-AA which swaps the antenna from passive to active ESA. There just simply isn’t much data for the ECR-90 by comparison. The Rafale was more liberally exported and more information is available.

A lot of effort went into modelling the interior engine detail only to have it covered by the generic afterburner texture on reheat.

Would be cool if they could just move the generic texture back slightly behind the 3D detail so we can see the realistic engine model they already made, it would look better.

Out of curiosity, what do we know about the radar/IRST and what is/isn’t correct? PIRATE especially feels far too weak on the search side of things and the target tracking capacity of Captor feels abysmal.

CAPTOR-M

  • Missing critical search modes such as Priority Track (Report) and GMTI/T (ground radar)
  • likely underperforming in a few key ways, such scan rate, power, etc, but sources yet to be found to confirm
  • Target identification via radar
  • A number of bugs to resolve such as ghost contacts.

This is a good over-view of CAPTOR-M :

PIRATE

Likely more on the way for the PIRATE as well.

Reports still in progress for a number of issues

Eurofighter Technology and Performance : Sensors how’s this on CAPTOR?

Looks pretty good

You can add these four to it if you wish (though, those concern many Radars/IRSTs and not just Captor-M/Pirate)

If anyone else has any videos or images of ghost targets then please stick them in the comments. Also include a game log file if possible.

Are there any radars in game which are 2 axis only but electronically stabilised in the roll axis?

It seems like most radars are implemented as machanically stabilised on 3 axis, with hard limits on all axis.
