“US Radars can’t gimball like this so we think this is a marketing lie”
Oh i dont think theyve ever brought up US stuff to compare, its always “Russian X cant Y so we dont believe Z nations can either, must be a marketing lie”
Might??? It will be like that. Only additional feature will be tall scan and targets being kept outside of sweep but scanning that area will take like 20 seconds…
Wont it be only plane capable of doing that btw?? I cant think of any other jet able to do this.
Maybe something chinese?
only Eurofighter and Gripen E, they even use the same gimbal afaik
That is a line that I hope never fades with time. The mask occasionally slips and we get comedy gold.
The locks sliding all over the place seems to be a common thing across all radars right now. It’s just aggravated on the Captor due to the slow refresh rate.
I took some footage of the Typhoon, Sea Harrier II, and the Tornado just now and it’s present on all of them, you just feel it less on the Foxhunter since it’s scan rate is so much higher. They’re not identical tests I admit but all 3 clearly show the behavior, even on the narrower/faster scan patterns.

Yeah, even if we can’t get exact figures, it has no business getting outclassed by the F-15s radar in any way. If anything, F-15Es radar should struggle to match Captor
I think most aren’t even demanding it be the best radar in the game (even thought I imagine with supporting documentation it would be…) but just simply on par with its competition, because right, it’s a sad excuse of a radar for an aircraft that is the highest BR and one that should excel at BVR
I was just thinking about this, but, though there is a good argument for modelling it basicly like a blue vixen with more range atm, it doesnt satisfy a rather critical claim for CAPTOR-M, namely its “ESA-like capabilities”
At the moment its in no way comparable to any of the ESA radars we have in-game, and probably worse than a few if not many of the other contemporary mechanical radars currently in-game
Why the hell does it even have 9L as a research option when you get 9M stock?
that’s pretty standard for top rank stuff iirc
I only did a couple game with the EF for now, and I feel like I’m using the russian TWS. It keep seeing enemies that doesn’t exists and it feels like it take forever to refresh. The FA2 radar is much better by comparison, let alone the F3’s.
Or the Rafale’s for that matters.
I’ll use it a bit more, but seriously, if they consider this final, I’d take the Su27SM (or any F15) over this plane because at least the TWS HDN exists on it.
Really fun having my AIM120 blow up under my wing as I launch them and results in me dying
Yeah, its clear that regardless of the scan rate debate. Something is fundementally broken with the CAPTOR-M at the moment
Yes, I saw it, I’m happy for them.
Blue vixen is also incorrectly modeled as a 3 axis radar, when it should only have 2 mechanical axis - Elevation and Azimuth
The roll axis is instead stabilized electronically, not mechanically.
This effectively means the output signal of the radar is capable of ful 360 degree rotation, not just the +/- 60-70 degrees currently implemented.

The maximum gimbals speed of the servos is 300 degrees/sec and can accelerate at 2000°/s ²
The scan rate is however programmed to be fixed to 60 degrees/sec. There is clearly significant room for improvement in the scan rate if the manufacturer wanted to increase the speed for the ERC90, which may be using more powerful servos and control systems due to the larger antenna (Which is actually very lightweight)
War Thunder does not seem to simulate maximum servo speed and acceleration as it appears to be infinite.
I thought a bit… How does the snail configure RBE2? As I understand it, the radar is configured according to the principle:
- There is a declassified source
- If there is no such source, the closest “relative” is taken
Hence two questions - are there really declassified documents on the newest radar? And if not, who is the closest relative of this AESA?
It’s not the same situation as they have plenty of data for the RBE2 PESA, going from PESA to AESA is a really small jump compared to Captor-M to Captor-E
