And I’m meant to believe we are worse at geography
The talk was about european in spirit, not geography.
spirit so strong they now allow israel in eurovision

Multiple sources for it being capable of doing “an excess of Mach 4”. The best guess is that its cruise speed at short ranges (remember, variable throttle) is more like mach 4.5.
Optimal range is between mach 2 and mach 5 from what I can find quickly. So 4 to 4.5 would not be unreasonable for it either. Sure if its doing a 200+km shot, then it would probably favour 3-3.5. But 4.5 is not “ineffecient” for it either.
Its burn time is unknown, but if we assume it has a burn time of 90 seconds when doing mach 3.7… would that not mean its impact velocity would be mach 3.7?
What? I genuinely have no idea what you are talking about here?
If its cruising at mach 4 (4800kph) for 60 seconds and it covered 80km in that time, it would still be going a hell of a lot faster for those last 20km than any AMRAAM would be fired from 100km away. Basically have the same impact speed of an AMRAAM fired at a target from 15-20km away (which for the Aim-120D is about mach 3)
Altitudes for the 100km in 90 seconds weren’t given out.
“Capable of reaching speeds over Mach 4” ~ Although it isn’t said if its for ramjet said time or intial impact speed.

your math doesnt add up
if it was cruising at 4800 km/h for 75 seconds it would have covered 100km
so it would have to be stationary for the next 15s to match the 100km in 90s figure
and I dont know about you, but I think stationary is somewhat slower than the mach 2+ impact of an AMRAAM at that range
I never denied that it could hit mach 4, only that it would not cruise at or above that speed for a significant portion of that shot
Meant 60 seconds
I really dont understand what you are on about there.
Burn time is unknown. But if we assume its not burning for the entire 90 seconds. Lets say, more like 60 seconds. its going to be coasting for at least a bit. Which means likely a higher speed than mach 3.7 for the powered part, to compensate for the 30 seconds where its bleeding speed.
But hey. Im all for it burning for the entire 90 seconds at mach 3.7. Just means its LSZ is going to be WAAAAAAAAY higher than 100km
ok?
so it covered 80km in 60s
now its average speed for the last 20km is given by the equation ((100-80)/(90-60))3600 or (20/30)3600, which gives an output of 2400 km/h
and this is an average so the impact speed would be significantly below that
We do have atleast have somewhat reference/similar to it with study results, AGARD, euraam etc and plenty of documents detailing ramjet
Hey. Im all for a missile that instantly accelerates to mach 3.7, stays at mach 3.7 for 90 seconds and would therefore impact a target 100km away mach 3.7. No complaints from me.
Nice for American mains to want buffs for something non-american for a change
lmao
this is your response to your complete inability to do basic algebra?
and even here your math is wrong, because the average was closer to 3.6 at the altitude it likely operates in
so again would have a terrible impact speed with those parameters
How so?
I was pointing out that it would be slower at teh start whislt it came up to speed and slower at the end, likely when its fuel has run out and its coasting like an AMRAAM does after a few seconds. Meaning that its cruising speed in the middle is probably higher than 3.7. Likely more like 4-4.5
But you were saying that for that to be the case it would have to be slower than an AMRAAM once it reaches 100km. Which simply doesnt make any sense
Then AMRAAM is MASSIVELY overperforming past about 20km then.
yes because your direct claim was that it would cruise at 4800km/h for ~60 seconds
and for this to be true it would impact at a much slower speed than an AMRAAM making a similar shot
personalty I believe it may cruise ~mach 4 for 30-40 seconds
but your edited claim of 60 seconds is ridiculous, and your initial claim of 75 seconds is even worse
I guessed on the burn time. 60 seconds sounded like reasonable round nunber and guessed at mach 4.5.
So lets swap to mach 4. The likely figure they’ll use for cruise speed given that it is 4+ on most sources.
Lets continue to guess 60 second burn time. That means 71km traveled at mach 4 (4300kph)
Which means its average speed for the final 29km would be around 3480kph of mach 3.2, which it for it to cover the final 30 seconds
So mach 4 for 60 seconds, and impacting the target unpowered 30 seconds later at mach 3.2. This would align rather neatly with the 100km ish LSZ we have too.
Note, this is all based upon mach speeds at 35k ft.
@Morvran It’s 20 to 4 in the morning man surely you’ve got better stuff to be doing at this time of night
Yeah. Need to head off, but its funny watching American mains really really try to make non-american kit look bad whilst making american kit look OP
nope
thats not impact speed, that is the average speed over the last 30s,
linear regression is inaccurate here, but would give an impact speed of 2.4
a more accurate estimate would be closer to 2.8
seems someone cant understand that not all country base their performance on perfect conditions.
So 2.4.
Thats the same speed an Aim-120D is doing at about 40km. with a mach 1.5 launch speed and 30k ft launch height
And we are talking about 100km for the Meteor.
yes from some unknown idealized launch parameter
and in game from a similar ideal launch parameter 120D would hit at 2.2-2.3
