Eurofighter Typhoon (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion (Part 3)

its just over mach 2.3 at that altitude

which is achievable

AIM-9Ls will lock onto basically anything with a heat signature lol

EFT also tops out around Mach 2.35, interesting

Well I guess this just shows meteor isn’t that impressive either way

you’re allowed to think something european is cool bro

I like the MiG-25/31 and Su-25

I fear that Gaijin might only allow the inner pylons the ability to carry radar missiles only by making the doble pylons carry exclusively IR.

Maybe if the F-15EX or the 5th gen start heavily outperforming the eurofighter they would consider adding the inner pylons missile without any restriction but after all those thing’s are mostly balance decisions

ye but the problem is 9M being incapable of

it also does disprove the mach 4+ cruse claim they like throwing around too, because if you calculate it, to reach those specs you need to average mach 3.6-3.7

and if it is cruising much higher than that, it would need to impact at a very low speed (also cant loft as high due to ramjet) so AMRAAM would have a higher speed at impact (which would also imply AMRAAM has a better time to target past ~100km)

even an F-4E could easily hit those launch conditions on a cold day with 4 sparrows

Launch conditions were probably more like 30k ft and mach 1.5. But knowing gaijin, that is the argument they’ll use to massively nerf the Meteor. That it can ONLY achieve those figures under extremely optimal conditions, like sitting at 50k ft and doing Mach 2+

were they?

if they are trying to show off the highest possible average speed, they will do so using their best possible launch conditions

and at some point in testing they do have to test those very high energy launch conditions, after which the maximum numbers quoted such as in that press release likely come from those tests because they are the most impressive figures available

There is also the possibility AIM-120D is better than it is ingame but its best to assume it’s roughly the same for simplicity

iirc it does match its know maximum range figures, fairly closely

and overall it is just better to go off of in game numbers for that comparison, because we are discussing how meteor would be implemented in game

I prefer you to stop thinking. Not european as well.

your view is not everyone view.

Remember this is a Ramjet missile we are talking about. Initial launch conditions arent as impactful. With its booster, It will accelerate up to Mach 4 to 4.5 and stay there for quite a while.

Tried to make a custom missile using KH-31 on statshark, but didnt work.

Yes they are. Will make starting speed for ramjet after rocket motor burns out much more optimal for efficiency. Starting Altitude also reduces how hard the missile has to work against drag and gravity to get to its cruise altitude

it will not

as proven by the average speed needed to travel 100km in 90s being ~mach 3.6 (at the upper edge of ramjets efficient altitude)
so if it was staying in that range of mach 4 to 4.5 for an extended period of time that would imply a very low impact speed (which is also possible due to the added drag of a ramjet, and being forced to stay at lower altitude)

so unless you are claiming that AIM-120 will have a higher terminal speed at 100km, and impact faster than meteor past that point; it is not cruising in excess of mach 4

It’s still rusia, however much they wouldn’t want to be - not european.
