Eurofighter Typhoon (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion (Part 2)

but turning circle doesnt need to corospond to G pull especially since the Iris-t has 3 booster stages with a lower thrust one that makes it easier for it to turn

It’s like ASRAAM pulling 50G which, sure, but you’re doing M3+ almost instantly off the rail so good luck with that one. It’s simply not comparable between different missiles unfortunately.

at the end of the day, gaijin wont care anyways because its an issue of balance

These G overload can be achiveable under certain speeds, no one expect them to pull 60-70G at Mach3.

I would expect them to pull 60-70G at M3. Higher speed increases the chance of higher G load. Just noticeably widens the turning circle too.

pulling the max g-overload is way easier at mach 3 due to the missiles speed and acceleration

Thats true though both have about the same max speed M 2.9 and M 3
naturally cant say at what point in time in flght is meant by that comment and at what speeds

Not so sure about this part.

The R-73 is full burn straight off the rail while iirc IRIS has a weaker motor initially to facilitate turning. Big contributor to turning circle.

but they dont have the same thrust profile the iris-t has a lower thrust stage that reduces acceleration that makes it easier to turn

thats why i said

All that aside I should probably note that ASRAAM has significantly more range than IRIS-T. I’d prefer to have it over the IRIS honestly as its more than agile enough while practically being a mini smokeless IIR r27et.

In headon it has significant range advantage, not so sure about rear aspect since both missile will more likely have similiar ranges. which will make it pretty easy to flare in this case considering Gaijin’s balance decisions.

True. If they don’t actually model IIR and stick with the pseudo-stinger behaviour it won’t be hugely threatening (still scary!! Only the eurofighter even has the facilities to detect one launched at max range)

If the asraam has more deltaV in a head-on then it will also have more deltaV in rear aspect

Also this. ASRAAM is a bigger missile and it’s pretty significant.

Their dimensions should be quite similiar, in terms of diameters ASRAAM beats the IRIS-T but for lenght they are almost the same.

They’re too much like analogues to withhold one but not the other, but given the other two EFT’s have received Paveways and Brimstones, I’d personally like to be able to mix and match both ASRAAM and IRIS-T. Depending on how good ASRAAM is, it might be worth taking a mixed loadout of 4 AMRAAM, 4 ASRAAM and 2 IRIS-T

This sounds terrifying and I hope it happens.

can the ASRAAM be even put on the dual pylons?

there are pictures of the IRIS-T on it but not of the ASRAAM afaik
