Eurofighter Typhoon (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion (Part 2)

Yeah the afterburner definitely develops more than what we have. I guess it’s just in-game afterburner design that makes the flames look more “cone-ish” and shorter.

How come that meteor seems to have one intake shut?

Pass no idea, its the same on the Meteor fit to Gripen though.

if i had to guess it might be to reduce drag before the launch
i could imagine that the ramjet produces quite some drag

I was thinking it might be part of the ramjet start up maybe blocking one intake initially helps with start up after which the cover breaks up?

Could it be related to the fact that it’s a throttleable ramjet?

reduce airflow → lower thrust and lower fuel burn

it could also have to do with the initial booster the meteor uses

That was definitely higher than the speed limit😭

but then you wouldnt want to do it on only one intake
and i think it would be easier to throttle it through the fuel injection instead of the intakes

Although surely if you cut off airflow from both intakes you risk an engine flameout? I think it being on one intake would make sense.

it would mess with the aerodynamics of the missile causing asymetrc drag, thats why iam saying that it makes more sense to regulate the fuel flow instead of the air

Why are you guys even discussing this seriously? The missile is on rail, there i no throttling happening there.

my guess is that the cover is there to reduce drag while it is on the rail

@Metaltank1990 thinks that the cover is used to throttle the missile while it is in the air

iam just saying why i dont think it is the caseö

mitigating debri entering the intake during take-offs and reducing drag on the rails would be my guess

thats what i think as well

Nah because its still sealed on Gripen wing stations with both intakes on the “bottom”. So both intakes are equal distance to the ground.

If it were to reduce drag surely it would also make sense to close off both?
