Eurofighter Typhoon (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion (Part 2)

It’s just a prototype for now, BAE is suggesting it for the Phase 4 upgrades though

Not a mockup, it was just presented a few times, not in serial production yet,

I stand corrected, I did try and check, but only saw stuff about the sim fitted with it. My bad.

I believe BAE are pushing for this to be part of Tranche 5 standard in phase 4

Shouldn’t the LWR warn from things like 2S38 tracks? it feels weird for those to be 100% silent.

Yes, but locks like that in game do not trigger LWS as of now.

Has an attempt to bug report this been done?

Game convention, engine limit, one of these. As of right now it seems they can’t, or don’t want to, attach laser to the lock.

I mean it’s how the laser system of Heli’s work so I don’t see how hard it could be.

What laser system?

He means guiding in missiles like Hellfire and Vikhr, which do trigger LWS

You are looking at the future Tempest cockpit arrangment.

Yes and it’s annoying that they dont model it.
Especially when for ranging and tracking. The 2S38 uses that system

No, Typhoon

can also see it in the Spanish display thing they did a few months ago

I mean more the UK likely wont spend the money on these upgrades and we will see it in Tempest.

We’ll see, lots of benefits from doing it, especially when combined with CAPTOR-E Mk2 and Striker II

When I Tempest was revealed at Farnborough Airshow the BAE systems reps I spoke to said the cockpit wouldn’t have any instrumentation and it would all be displayed via the HMD. Basically why waste money and weight on instruments when the HMD can just overlay virtual instruments onto a blank instrument panel (or anywhere else the pilot wants). True to their word the mock up they let people sit in had no instrument panel.

Is it time for a Tempest thread I wonder?

That’s surpising having only one system the HMD to do it all doesn’t give the pilot any form of redundancy?
