Stinger/Mistral have the dual IRCCM of R-73 and 9M, so they’re already barely seeing flares to begin with and they have the IOG push-ahead to counter the few flares they do see.

The MAW still doesn’t know how to respond to SARH… has gaijin forgot they even added this feature?

R-27ER is an SARH.
R-27ET looks like an R-27ER but is defeated by flares not chaff.
Therefore all SARH missiles require flares not Chaff.

MAWS still responds to ARHs with flares as well.

I also noticed that when being fired at from an aim9X the rwr goes off, but not a single flare is activated from MAWS.

I don’t get why they see the need to overcomplicate it and make the entire system broken by trying to use some abhorrent angle matching. Just make the MAW immediately know, the result is more realistic anyways.

Idk if this is useful, but, what the hell? AAM-3, but in game it has the same seeker right?

The angle is tricky to tell, but that might have actually be correct behaviour.

It saw the flare, switched the seeker off, the target shifted position and it missed.

Today I had such a strange bug, I went to launch a 9M at an enemy, but for some reason launched a 120B at an ally, where my radar wasn’t even looking. Thank god it didn’t hit…

Okay, its official, the game is having a complete nervous breakdown :D

And i didn’t even notice at the time, I just thought it was another one of those 9Ms that goes to the moon. Only saw it when I went to the replay for something else haha

That’s not how MAWs works. If you want accurate countermeasure drops, use your hands, eyes, and ears.

i’m about 98% certain that correctly identifying a threat is PRECISELY something DASS is capable of.

Id not be surprised if it could tell you what missile it was (at least for ARH missiles). If im not mistaken, The Tornados RWR could recognise some ARH missiles.

I wouldn’t entirely be surprised if identifying the missile was part of the reason they picked such absurdly high frequency sensors…

I have the opposite sometimes: You have a solid radar lock, a solid ARH lock but you can’t fire your missile no matter what you do or press. You have to relock everything to be able to fire the missile.

I wouldn’t say the usage of high frequency was to discriminate the missiles but rather to get a better resolution at distance as missiles have a very low RCS of <0,04 m². Additionally the higher the frequency the higher the antenna gain, so you can use smaller antennas, which is important as you don’t have as much space for MAW antennas. The “identification” is mostly via RWR + MAW comparison. MAW detects a missile, but if the RWR shows nothing it has to be IR (passive). If the RWR shows something too it has to be RF (active). If the RWR detects a missile before the MAW it can focus to detect the incoming missile earlier (if AESA radar MAW is used).
