Eurofighter Typhoon (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion (Part 2)

So does that mean that Irbis, a friggin PESA, radar really scans faster than the ECRS AESA radar.

Also, what is a bar?

ECRS is underperforming considerably in all but the 200/180 modes. Should be like 560+ Deg/s in the mode you are comparing. But Gaijin wont set a scan speed per mode for some reason, so all are set to the slowest speed

The green area is acquisition region. It can TWS targets far beyond that (out to the full 350km it claims). The cause of the acquisition region being small is the geniuses at gaijin entertainment made the acquisition pattern use MPRF which cuts its range down to 150 lol

The radar does not scan it’s whole elevation at once (in this case), it splits it into bars, they are horizontal lines, that the radar scans around

You can see that Irbis scans 5 bars, per a single cycle, while ECRS scans 12.

On the topic of bars has mythicpi updated the radar spreadsheet with the nerfed scan speed yet

Don’t think so

I see. And so why should that make a radar slower or faster. Shouldnt a radar that sweeps x degrees per second sweep y bars simply in x degrees per second regardless of what number y is?

To clarify. I though sweep speed was simply its “horizontal” sweep speed

you cant launch at those targets, because the game wont let you softlock them

Spoiler

in the images it softlocks a target at slightly over 160km and its not in a HPRF mode bc then you would see this in the HUD:

and not only this:

hypothetically if you have a radar that can scan 35° per second and you have a scan patternt that is 70° x 5 bars, then it would take that radar 10 seconds to complete the scan pattern

Well there’s other reasons why you can’t launch at the targets 160km out…

So. All of this is totally up to gaijin unless proven otherwise, and it was their choice to make the ECRS slower.

You’d think a primary source would count as “proven otherwise”

point is that MPRF dosent even have 100km range

we are talking about gaijin

they might fix it if they feel like it

Period is how long in seconds it takes the radar to complete one cycle, so scan all the bars whole. So unless there is a bigger difference in scan speeds (here it is quite low), radar that has more bars will take longer to complete the scan, but at the same time it will cover bigger area in elevation per cycle.

MPRF has exactly 150km range.
IMG_9059
HPRF has exactly 300km range.
IMG_9060
HPRF velocity (not used in any TWS pattern unlike the other two) has exactly 350km range.

Mprf should be 150 km detection, that looks right

the game dosent let you launch at targets that arent in the green zone

I understand: (70/35)*5 = 10 seconds.

It still sweeps left to right at 35 degrees per second.
it just takes 10 seconds to complete a pattern.
