Functionally irrelevant to the current map sizes. Less actual range might actually make the radar less capable of holding its lock, granted with the current state of BVR combat, range is an objectively worthless metric to judge in-game airborne radars by beyond ~60km.
Atm its scan zones are copy pasted from the Su-34’s V004, my point being regardless of research, gaijin appears to have made the executive decision to model the RBE2-AA as uniquely capable, and nobody else is allowed to come even remotely close.
If gaijins modelling of scan zones is just based on an educated guess, they should have placed the EL/M-2052 and JAPG-2 scan zones somewhere between the V004 and RBE2-AA at least.
What I never really got is why AESA wasn’t just modelled how the pantsir track radar is? Scan across the entire scan area really quickly and have the rapid update while PESA can have the slower scan but the fast update.
To be honest I don’t understand the problem with the current CAPTOR-M. It feels really good and doesn’t have ghosting issue that made it so unusable back when it first came out. I do understand the requests from the community when it comes to adding the features that this radar is still lacking, but we’ve come a long way from the radar we had in our Typhoons at first.
I think the biggest problem seems to be a lack of consistency for no real reason, some times it works and detects targets fine, then it might just completely not update a target occasionally or god forbid they fire a missile
Mostly just because of TWS+ being so abysmal that we were forced to have our scan zones cut down to make it useable (and 140deg scan is still practically blind). The radar performs okay (and better than all other M-scan, as it should be) but is limited by missing features and the base game functionality of TWS just being terrible.
Also for some ungodly reason it will prioritise missiles which it can detect 40km+ out, so the moment the first missile vollies come out you’re blind as the 20 target TWS gets jammed.
Ye, compared to when it launched its day and night, but somtimes it still has issues locking targets in HMD mode, my record was 12 trys to lock the target whuch was 6km out, and slighty above me
I just gave up and use IRST to lock (30km HMD !!!) and then swap to radar after it instantly acquires because IRST is far better. I feel bad for the German EFs who can’t do that.
I cycle targets with a keybind that’s quite comfy and personally it doesn’t really affect me. Given that the radar shows the speed of the object scanned it’s quite easy to reliably shoot/target actual aircraft. (Not considering the fact it even tells you)
I cycle targets but I do literally mean jammed. As in you have more than 20 missiles in the air and your radar goes blind because it will decide to ONLY track those missiles over the actual jets. I have posted video of it happening here before. Bonus points for the fact that if you swap between targets regularly your radar will instantiate a bunch of useless targets outside your scan zone, which then again blind your radar.
Had today an dude in an SB match who didnt noticed you get pretty much every datail about your Locked enemy in the cockpit, like thr next level would be to show us there IP adress xD
