Yes to datalink and its ARH not IIR, so different nose and a little more weight
CAMM-ER is double the range

Datalink is the main guidance method.
ASRAAM is not compatible with CAMM launchers, though is parts compatible with CAMM. IIR guidance. Ground launched ASRAAM has a 15km range.
CAMM is a little longer than ASRAAM (3.2m vs 2.9m) and uses a ARH seeker, >25km range.
CAMM-ER has a new larger motor section, which brings the length up to 4.2m and the diameter to 190mm (from ASRAAM and CAMM’s 166mm), the new motor gives a >45km range. Same guidance section as CAMM.
There’s also the >100km class CAMM-MR thats under development, but no idea if it’s using the same launcher, and IIRC is still in mockup
It is unknown if Late blocks ASRAAMs have DL or not as of now, so yes.
Presumably they must do for over the shoulder launches
Datalink for the missile isn’t needed for over the shoulder shots, only IOG and LOAL for the missile paired with aircraft to aircraft datalink.
DL is not needed for that.
good luck with that one lol
Considering that the IRIS-T can’t even reach it’s stated effective range (much less it’s max range), I wouldn’t get your hopes up
Meh.
FGR4 will always be better in terms of everything, except F&F munitions if they don’t add MMW to brimstones.
It’s never a bad thing to have more airframes, so what if the Typhoon is better?
Literally got them last update lmao, it isn’t as hopeless as you think
Ofc it’s not, I just cant find a single reason why I should play Hornet when I got FGR4.
Still not enough on slow platform that has to sacrifice too much for A2G capabilities.
Also they would be stuck without Laser designation, as the AAS-38B, which added the self-designation capability only became available in 1987 (purchased in the mid '90s). LANTIRN(V)4 only got added with HUG 2.4, beginning deployment in 2004 alongside the ASRAAM.
And Australia never bought Walleyes, so it’s non TGP-handoff Mavericks at best, pretty much.
Wouldn’t really stop Gaijin from adding the full A2G capabilities without the ASRAAM, they’ve done it to the Typhoon already lmao
look at swiss f18 in wt
Yes except iirc the Aussie hornet got BOL which means it would look more closely to MLU 2 which is DOA for CAS
afaik the australian hornets that got bol would be fa18a+ instead of fa18cs so the flight performance would be even worse than the swedish ones
If i’m being honest, the GR.7 would handle CAS better anyways.
