When has Gaijin been this specific for top tier air? Israel just got spice too. ASRAAM and IRIS-T is tricky as technically both fit on all typhoons but its use varies by nation. Would Gaijin’s technical feasibility take priority over the originality argument we saw for the F18F going to only UK? Maybe it will come down to what Gaijin thinks is “balanced”
Tornados they’ve been obsessive with nation specific loadouts.
they denied PGMs for Italy and Germany and there is no chance of the Tornado GR4 and SLE getting GBU-39s from the RET8
Even though they are strictly speaking, in the same boat as the Typhoon
mmmmmm maybe Gaijin did that since tornadoes aren’t used that much so its an incentive to grind each varient. Typhoons are like end-game so it would make sense to keep a standard for whatever stays top tier. I hope they get specific with ASRAAM and IRIS-T. Both are essentially IR missiles but provide diversity.
Which is a core part of why I hope they get different IIR missiles. If they all get both, there is no reason to grind out more than 1 Typhoon nation
Do u have any source material on ASRAAM stats?
Probably the best bet
Spoiler
Flame has got a stockpile of sources for the ASRAAM ready
Ok yeah so ASRAAM is faster but IRIS-T can turn tighter. I wonder if IRIS-T can have a benefit with lower speed as its harder to lose it since it maintains visual for longer but ASRAAM reaches the target faster. hmmmm
The way I see it.
in a Typhoon with ASRAAM vs Typhoon with IRIS-T fight, the Typhoon with ASRAAM maintains the advantage until such time the fight closes distance, if the fight becomes WVR then the IRIS-T holds the overwhelming advantage. So in the Typhoon with ASRAAM your playstyle should heavily favour defensive, BVR focused combat, whilst with IRIS-T you’d want to force the merge.
ASRAAM biggest strength is its greatest weakness. Its speed. Deadly when fired at any kind of range, but does limit its very short range WVR performance. Though still hopefully a decent step up over Aim-9M
IRIS-T is the king of the short range dogfight, should be the most agile of all the next gen IIR. but has more limited range
i’d imagine IRIS-T would have an advantage on our current maps then. I seriously wonder if Gaijin will add large maps and restrict it to only top tier. They already restrict some maps to lower br only already. And even then IRIS-T may be better in WVR but can still score kills at BVR. As long as we don’t get another mica situation it shouldn’t be too bad.
In situations where you’d need IRIS-T instead of ASRAAM, it’s usually because there’s an issue with the player’s tactics. In most cases, ASRAAM should be the one consistently giving you a major advantage.
It’s similar to the debate over which is better, the 9M or the Magic 2(R-73?). Personally, I think the 9M is superior.
I doubt it, we’ve needed bigger maps for past 3 years.
I routinely operate in BVR in the Typhoon, keeping my distance at ranges where ASRAAM would be an ideal weapon to employ. (20-30km) IRIS-T I doubt you’d want to fire much past 10km
If the biritsh typhoon can maintain distance and be smart yeah. But with how dum dum average war thunder players are, getting close enough shouldn’t be hard.
Best case scenario is being able to carry one ASRAAM and one IRIS-T for last-ditch emergencies or when someone comes up behind you.
I guess when they add these missiles, I need to start carrying alot more flares…
Which is another core reason why I hope they are nation specific. Being able to take both might be too OP.
Eh… I doubt they’ll be any harder to flare than 9Ms are. As in 1 flare defeat 99% of the time
Though hopefully we actually get BOL by then
Depends. FoV as big as the AIM-9M? Easy. FoV as small as the R-73 with seeker-shutoff? Much harder.
Problem with the current IRCCM implementation of the AIM-9M is that it only relies on seeker-shutoff and none of the other IRCCM mechanisms this missile should have are implemented (flare rejection, push ahead, etc.). Every weak BOL flare is enough to trigger the seeker-shutoff and keep it active until the flare either burns out or leaves the FoV.
Yeah… but still. No way that IIR is modeled to be better than dual-mode seeker than the R-74 will have
Purchasing 35s means you purchased a bulk order that comes with 120s… regardless of if you want them or not, as for meteors; theyre already integrated on the B and A its just a rollout to the fleet which is on the squadrons as far as timelines
It’s not integrated. Separation and firing trials haven’t even started.
The furthest it’s progressed so far is flight trials with an inert/drill missile in the bay on F-35B - no motor, no seeker. F-35A hasn’t even flown with the missile yet.
Meteor integration is still months away from live firing trials, let alone IOC.
Isn’t this mainly because of Raytheon stone walling the integration for years
If only as part of the deal we were allowed to integrate our own weapons… tier one partner something something.
