Eurofighter Typhoon (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion (Part 1)

In the debate I had over in the Rafale thread, I was made aware by another forum poster that constant allied position tracking via IFF is not a unique feature of the Rafale, but is instead a standard features of IFF in general.

That being said, the HMD IFF the Rafale, M2K5DRMV, and A-10C all have in-game is not based on their IFF system as far as I can tell, as that was not the rebuttal used by the devs when SADL was bug reported and subsequently denied for the F-16C. The devs explicitly stated TDL’s are not in-game, with no mention of a different functionality allowing the system to work on the A-10C. The only possible explanation for the devs refusal to add HMD IFF for jets other than the 3 which enjoy this massive advantage at the moment is therefor that either they actually believe HMD IFF to be a unique feature of the Scorpion HMD, or they have a specific reason for deciding that only those 3 jets would be allowed to have a feature that many jets should also have.

Had it been pre-Rafale, I wouldve given them the benefit of the doubt and said it was otentially for “balance”, as HMD IFF had been relegated to strike aircrafts only with limited air to air capabilities, but since then its been given to the single best jet in-game, so the only 3 remaining answers I can think of are

  1. Favouritism (which doesnt make a whole lot of sense cuz had that been the case, the F-16C being the same nation as the A-10C shouldve also gotten SADL)
  2. Pure laziness (someone doesnt wanna do the coding necessary to bring the feature to other jets, makes sense since all 3 jets share a single HMD, with the Rafale having a minor difference in-game iirc)
  3. Someone in charge of HMD’s is genuinely stupid enough to think the HMD’s IFF works on the magic of friendship and pixie dust, therefore making it a unique development and by extension the best HMD in the world obviously.

Yeah but this source says that the EF has non datalink IFF capability trough the AMIDS, same capability as rafale, as from what i gathered the antennas around the rafale can scan and iff/do nctr, same as the maws of the EF can apparently do too.

Well-well-well. Look who pointed their finger at the sky and guessed right down to the smallest detail.

MAW IRL: Spots a threat at a distance sufficient to react, creates an evasive trajectory and guides the pilot along it, indicating the time between turns.
MAW in game: ((sees flare)) ALERT, WE ARE UNDER ATTACK!!! ((spams countermeasures))

And here is another one of my guesses that has been confirmed. So, the Typhoon can give target designation via radar, IRST and RWR. As I thought. It’s nice to be smart from time to time, even if I couldn’t find the information (I didn’t look outside sources with English text)

Thanks for the interesting source

But i don’t know if this is enough information to enact changes like no datalink iff, there’s really not a lot of sources about the AMIDS system out there, especially that state it can also do IFF/NCTR.

But also it says here that the IFF automatically adresses contacts which i take means that if the AMIDS detects a plane the IFF interrogates it.

Edit: Extra 1 and 2 to dig trough to maybe find some extra sources.

For aircraft?

Should the MAW AESA radars be able to detect aircraft??

Yes? Why would it not be? For example radar on one of the tank APS systems can detect planes from 22km. It detects everything and classifies it. It’s not like it magically ignores everything but missiles.

Huh. Should that not be a feature then?

In game?

Yeah. three free AESAs seems like a huge performance boost especially considering how agonising CAPTOR is right now.

First, we do not have radar MAW in game, all are IR
Second, MAW in game are forced to ignore planes, so they detect only things like missiles, flares(not quite historical on later ones) etc.

Sure but what’s stopping gaijin from modelling them as separate sensors?
Also, somewhat more critically, what’s stopping them from adding radar MAW at this point? The GR.7s been in game long enough and they still haven’t fixed the MAW going off on its own countermeasures in a hover.

PS

this should not take so long

I have no idea. They will add them when they want to.

Even IR MAWS likely shouldnt be going off for flares irl. Certainly not modern imaging ones. Gaijins MAWS implementation is just very very lazy at the moment.

they fixed doublescan in the dev-stream

fixed issues as of now

Weird, Captor-M got the slightly reduced radar scan period, while the Captor-M with Pirate did not.

Spoiler

Definitely not the only thing

Does eurofighter has NCTR IRL?
I think if it does - it can be reported, Su-30 got smth close to NCTR.

Every other plane that has NCTR already has a report open and accepted, including the EF.

What’s it got?

Do you know what the Eurofighter MAW is called in the Datamine files? i want to check what changed because smin said maw is fixed.
