I only have the most basic knowledge on these things. The wiki states 25km for IRIS and 25+ for ASRAAM. That’s all I know
its not the shortest range but definitely not as good as something like aam5
That is its theoretical range (launch, burn, glide, explode (battery dies)). You can half or even cut the range into thirds when it is manoeuvring, especially in a game like WT where planes pull 15 Gs
That holds true for all of these missiles. So it’d be 12.5km for IRIS T and 12.5km+ for ASRAAM. That’s like the max range I can get a lock with R27ET currently
These are for ground launched IRIS-T, so here the range is pretty much cut in half. Actual air-to-air IRIS-T is claimed to be “perfectly capable of hitting targets up to 25km”. The rest isn’t even useable on the EFT.
So, is Typhoon really going to come before the F-18 series?
As of right now seems like it.
Means as well when the F/A 18 comes its gonna be cannon fodder addition at this point kot specialy meta
No one here knows that except for Gaijin. And Gaijin isnt gonna tell that before the trailer or dev blogs
I believe even the IRIS-T that Sweden and Norway has is capable of 25km from ground launch.
This one uses SL iirc,
The LVRBV-206 (RB-98) uses SLS also.
Nope, they’re between 12 and 10km depending on the launch angle. This is why Germany’s Boxer IRIS-T has a turret that can adjust the launcher elevation for either maximum range or maximum height (12x6km or 10x8km, basically).
Closer to 25km, ASRAAM is not a dogfight missile, and is entirely designed to splash before the merge, while MDBA lists the range as 25+km, a figure of 50km has been floating around for a while. More crucially for WT the motor is just bigger and the missile uses fins to steer. IRIS-T was designed to make merging the last thing an enemy pilot does, so has TVC for massive G pull, however it also uses a similarly sided motor to AIM-9X (although longer than the 9X) so there’s less deltaV there, both of which would kinda murder the perf in WT (given how bad TVC control is in game).
If it get’s modelled both iirc have datalink, so should solve the seaker range cap on overall range that other missiles currently have in game. (and lead to pretty silly rear hemisphere shots).
At what altitude, what speed is the carrier at?
I can tell you one thing its not gonna a hit a defending enemy when you are hugging the ground going 400kph and launching the missile at its max gimble limit (at 25km)
Even the aggressor with 10x AIM-120’s?
U say that like its special lol.
Realy means nothing.
EFT can carry 12 total missles already as well
6 wvr 6 bvr
U can choose to to spam all your missles and thwn get killed in the dog fight
10x AIM-120 means it can barely break mach 1 on the deck iirc, I have also seen people talk about it not even being able to breack mach 1 on the deck with that loadout lol.
Not to mention the ~0.94 TWR with that loadout and the insane speed bleed as soon as it turns even when clean.
The Typhoon, even post nerf (lets be honest, it’s going to get nerfed hard at some point/multiple points on the dev and after release), would absolutely destroy the 18C.
Realistic drag isnt modelled in game. You wont see a real F15E do mach 1.6 at 15km alt with a full bomb loadout and all missiles.
you wont see any jet going above mach 1 with external bomb stores irl but no one cares about operational restrictions
Fair.
However that still leaves the lacking TWR and the fact that you become dead in the water as long as you turn for more than 3 seconds.
That’s basically the case for every single missile ever, incl MICA and ASRAAM so
