Doesnt the new Tonka have 9M’s? That’s why I wrote it
Yeah but Britain used both. I think they only ASRAAM on the EF though, I’m not even sure that any country used the 9M on the EF.
That’s be an interesting quandry for Gaijin then. If RAF eurofighters never flew with anything other than ASRAAM. But Missiles like ASRAAM, MICA ER and IRIS-T are far too strong currently.
My bet is they might just give every eurofighter the AMRAAM A and 9LI for simplicity
I think DA.2 might have been shown with a missile thats either Li or M.
Either way the jet is compatible with both but ingame theyre the same bar smokeless motor and Li-1 exists.
The UK only ever used ASRAAM on EFT in Service this is correct.
Also worth noting that AIM-9L by this point in British service had all been converted to GENETIC C modification. Which like the AIM-9Li or AIM-9L(I)-1 had been upgraded with IRCCM.
Do you have any info on it? Like who it was developed by? And why it was never offered for export? Unless it’s just the name given to the L/I, which would make sense.
Not a huge amount sadly, I’d imagine it was done by BAE and not offered for export. I doubt the need for exporting it would be there, as AIM-9M and AIM-9Li already existed and ASRAAM was around the corner.
Doesnt it have a comparatively long range for an IR missile?
Compared to its peers no
Really? I knew MICA NG IR had a long range but I thought IRIS T matched 9X and ASRAAM for range. Shows you what I know
If you mean the IRIS-T SLX yes but the normal plane launched version is at best medium range
SLX is not done yet…
I don’t think it comes close to asraam in range it is a close range beast though
and?
its surface launched and not done so not really comparable to an air launched missile that is in service
iirc aim 9X is the shortest range one of the lot
