Wait we getting 120 C-8s for the Eurofighter? I though they are only procured for the F-35 because Meteor is still not integratable into it.
the logical step is to make them useable for both,
the meteor is quite a bit more expensive and if you ahve the stock you want to be able to use everything u have available
c-8s are getting added to Eurofighter yes.
the german f-35 package includes them already so they’ll be part of the Bw’s stocks anyways and as the current amraams are probably nearing their end of shelf-life its just a smart idea. Meteor production and procurement isnt sufficient as of right now.
Meteor is getting integrated into F-35 though but the german gov hasn’t participated in that venture yet and the brits have a lot of delays
sooooo
its better to have the c-8s to replace A/Bs than to miss out on that capability all together and be stuck with like 300 meteors.
Yeah I just saw the the contract is for 969 with an option for up to 1000 Aim-120 C-8s
the 1000 is a combination of the 969 order and the C-8s included in the F-35 package.
latest news was that a purchase of amraams has been permitted with a value of 178 million euros which is far from the 969. sooo probably around 60.
same scheme as with Brimstone - initial small acquisition for testing and integration with planned later mass order
German grey is so nice. Idk why but i really like it.
This is false. The Eurofighter has 2 pesa jammers on the left wingtip, one forward and one backwards.
This will probably not be added, but the eurofighter should be capable of passive targeting using only the esm suite
I did say there were two jammers in the left tip? But they are AESA, not PESA
huh, so it is not wrong to say that eurofighters in service already have aesa radars, who would have known
Isnt the MAW side and back Radars also AESA?
Just looked it up yes they are.
Just a mechanical scan radar for the nose in 2024
-edit- this isn’t spam lmao
Cost reasons, they can fit it at any time as Eurofighter is modular but they don’t have many examples (only for testing/development airframes so far).
Well that’s just sad and bit disadvantages too
Germany’s advantage to counter that is having the most Eurofighters of any user nation, though you can say they do lose a marginal amount of capability on a 1-1 basis per Eurofighter, lacking the LWS and PIRATE, but remember the British MoD tried to remove the gun from it and only didn’t because it cost more to rewrite the software than keep the gun…
Equally though IPA7 is owned by EADS (Airbus Defence) IPA7 is German registered and trialled PIRATE, so there is some chance Germany could receive it through that excuse, just to bring it up to par which I would support, but in my opinion if they do that, then Italy and Britain should get the AMK kit as well as Germany if/when it is ever added as both are non-standard-service developmental modifications.
Maybe Germany dosnt have to fall back on that as it was Confirmed that Germany will buy
20 EF Tranche 5.
And there was one shown on the ILA 2024
That one has Pirate and the AMK kit on it.
But alas it still depends if Germany will get that exact variant.
Even then Eurofighter T5 will come with a BR increase, whereas Italy can have them even on Tranche 1 block 5 aircraft and Britain similarly early and T1 is probably the first variant we will see in-game, I think it’s best to have all Eurofighter variants more or less equal.
But yes Tranche 5 may materialise with the whole package (maybe even the engine improvements touted which apparently could be done without increasing the engines size, and TVC).
I am hoping to see the UK buy 50 such examples of Tranche 5’s (potentially as risk reduction for Tempest as France seems to have done with SCAF and Rafale F.5) but we will see.
Particularly as T4 F-35 is delayed till the early 2030’s…
Would be great if people could just be banned from specific threads lol
