Eurofighter Typhoon - Germany's Best Fighter Jet (Part 2)

Just to be pedantic here. Theoretically Germany and Spain have not ruled out switching to ECRS Mk2 in the future. So applying the SPICE, PIRATE, AMK logic here there is no reason to not add it to an EFT that does explicitly not represent an operational airframe.
Feels very much like the rule is consistent until its not.

Talking about SPICE: Any chance for the EFT to get its additional eight SPICE for 16 overall?
They’re pretty fun after not having any (or more than two) FnF weaponry, but their explosive energy is rather lackluster, so more of them would be a good compromise.

If information comes to light that Germany is considering ECRS Mk 2 or its relevant upgrades, then that’s something that can be still considered as and when that happens. As of right now Germany (and Spain) have chosen to pursue ECRS Mk 1 and are continuing to develop that platform whilst ECRS Mk 2, a separate development, goes in a different direction.

Whilst they do not represent operational airframes, all of the features they have are options that are open to those nations platforms. In the current case, Germany has no interest in ECRS Mk 2 and is proceeding with ECRS Mk 1

A report has been forwarded for this as a suggestion: Community Bug Reporting System

Ok but neither the UK nor Italy are considering SPICE and its still unclear afaik whether Germany is considering PIRATE for the new airframes. So why is a radar being treated differently?

And if I have you on the line here already: Any chance to bump this report? Just a cosmetic thing about the SMART bomb racks of the SPICE, but it just looks stupid as it floats under the pylon instead of being fully connected (connector hinges are visible) ^^

Nobody has SPICE currently. It was simply shown off at shows.

Some German airframes already have it, and future proposals, tranches and upgrades have been shown with it, so it very much remains an option.

Because Germany has made a choice. That being ECRS Mk 1. The choice is 1 or 2. Germany and Spain have gone with 1, Britain and Italy 2. Both are being developed separately for the needs of each nation in that development group.

Germany chose the Mk 1. If they decide later to select the Mk 2, then as mentioned already, thats open to consideration. Right now. ECRS Mk 1 has been chosen and is already proceeding.

Youre not answering the question. None of the operators chose SPICE but it remains an option. Only Germany has chosen AMK but it remains an option for the others. PIRATE remains an option. Germany and Spain have chosen the ECRS Mk1 now but the Mk2 still remains an option since they didnt specifically rule it out exactly as all the other things. Its extremely selective that the current state of procurement only matters for one of these.

Respectfully, I have answered you several times. However I will cover it again for a final time to conclude this here.

ECRS Mk 2 is currently not an option for Germany, because they have chosen Mk 1. Work is being completed by Hensoldt and Indra who are developing and integrating the radar onto those platforms.

Work on ECRS Mk 2 is being done by Leonardo UK and BAE systems. Currently on British Eurofighters but also in the future, Italian platforms too.

There is no current possibility of Germany having ECRS Mk 2 unless something drastic changes. The very presence of the ECRS Mk 1 program cancels out the ECRS Mk 2 being an option. That is the choice that has been made and the way each radar set is being developed and progressed with each respective member nation currently.

Again, as I will mention yet again, if something changes in the future where Germany deselects ECRS Mk 1 or decides to change it to the ECRS Mk 2 (or a relevant upgrade), then its open to consideration.

However as it currently stands, the ECRS Mk 1 and 2 are different radar sets being developed in different ways for each nation(s). Which is not the case for SPICE, AMK and PIRATE.

Are you guys still on the ECRS Mk1 and Mk2 thing to this day ? At this rate, it’s going to become the new “EPA” topic

So, according to this logic: If there were (hypothetically) two different versions of the AMK, one better, one worse and germany buys the better one while everyone else didn’t place any orders or bought the worse one: Would only germany get the better one and everyone else the worse one or would everyone get the better one or only those who didn’t place any order get the better one?

I’m just trying to make sense of this process of finding out which way to go.

Yeah and not once properly.

“SPICE is currently no option for the UK and German EFTs, because they have chosen Brimstone.”
I understand that one is a German/Spanish program and the other is Italian/British.
The question still remains why current procurement and plans instead of technical compatibility only matter for the radar but not the other potential upgrades.

Given how early AMK is in its development and what this might mean, this isn’t something possible to answer currently.

If there were different AMK sets, then that would be something to consider and answer as and when that happened. But right now there are no current plans for the AMK to speak of anytime soon. So its not a relivant matter currently.

SPICE and Brimstone are two separate things and can be operated on the same aircraft. You cant have an ECRS Mk 1 and Mk 2 on the same aircraft at the same time.

There is no current technical possibility. No German Eurofighters have ECRS Mk 2 integration currently completed by Leonardo UK or BAE Systems. Nor is there any current plans unlike the Italian ones. They have chosen the Hensoldt and Indra path to integrate ECRS Mk 1. Should that change, as I said, it would then be open to consideration.

Oh I didn’t ask specifically for the AMK, it was just used as a (hypothetical) example to compare it to the current radar situation, to track the decision-making process ^^

Thats neither the point nor does it answer the question at the bottom.

The same applies to all the other things as well? We can talk in circles about plans and whatnot but it remains that one is judged by current plans and the other ones arent.
Either the rule is consistent or radars are treated differently which makes the rule not consistent.

Actually… There was something a little while ago iirc, about Germany Getting a few Mk2s specifically for their EKs, but I think now they are upgrading the Mk1s instead or something.

Can we pls just blacklist the word AMK kit? (Cope)
Because its getting annoying…

I didn’t even ask for it, I was just using it as a comparison for something like “If this situation would be like this, how would a decision be reached in this case, using the AMK as a hypothetical example”. Holy, didn’t know I would set off a landmine with this simple hypothetical question about the decision making process using a specific example lol xD

Well, the AMK Kit is special )))
