some vehicles are quieter, that’s true.
But the FIAT in this video has one of the loudest engine in the game and it’s revving pretty high too, a vehicle cruising at a set rpm will be quieter, indeed, but in war thunder, everybody always floors it anyway, it’s supposed to be loud.
I get that you have to defend the game, but unrealistic mechanics like that just removes immersion from the player and on that specific case, if I heard him a bit earlier, I would’ve at least got some time to react.

It’s a big issue, I hope it will be fixed soon.

Oh, i don’t :) I give critique where i think it’s warranted and in a constructive and structured way :P (though apparently many think that still isn’t being negative about those things lol). The sound engine in the game definitively needs an update, i just suggested how i would want them to increase the complexity and nuances of it :)

This has nothing to do with sound. This needs a change asap.
How does issues with sound have nothing to do with sound?

Sound shouldn’t depend on vision at all.

This needs a fix for sure, it makes no sense that you can’t hear engine sounds at all until they are spotted or can see them visually. Too many times where I don’t hear anything and then suddenly I hear a loud Abrams or any other MBT pushing the corner of a building the last second.

Which is exactly what i said?
The new sound mechanics are very realistic, I like them, but they need to be polished, otherwise they’ll ruin the gameplay.
Today I had an instance where I was looking through the tank’s telescopic sight and didn’t hear an enemy T72 appear right in front of me, an incredible 10 meters away, but below my sights (I never saw it). I don’t think the absolute detection ability has any effect when you look through the tank’s sights.
Just to keep in mind, I was very scared when it shot me, and then I saw the killcam and knew what had happened.
Have a nice day! <3

it happens all the time, earlier there was an XM800 zooming around the map not even 200m from me and it was spotted and completely silent, only thing you were hearing was when he was shooting.
You already have to look at different angles at all times, if the hearing component doesn’t work properly, you’re at a massive disadvantage, you can’t see what’s behind you, but you can hear, but not in that state.

As it stands, it’s not a fantastic mechanic for a GAME. Not have they implemented anything like this in well-known war simulators.
But like anything new, things can go wrong and need to be fixed :)
This is a huge issue and needs to be fixed ASAP.
How is it going to depend on vision? If I’m looking at a spot in an open field and I DON’T SEE ANYONE and out of nowhere I look to one side and look at the same side again in about 3 seconds and magically there’s a tank that wasn’t there before that kills me?
I think the thought is that it isn’t the “player” that is looking for the enemy, it’s the tanks crew. Since the crew is inside the tank they have very little field of view which makes it way harder to spot things IRL and extra much if the crew is inexperienced. Same with enemy engine sounds, it’s going to be quite hard to hear an enemy vehicle if you yourself is inside a tank that is running and loud.
But i personally still think the detection mechanic is in need of an update/remake as i stated earlier in the thread.

I mean, the game mechanics are based on the crew having to see and hear the tank and I wonder if it’s based like that and it’s based on the concept that it’s hard to hear and see tanks inside a tank that in top tier, that doesn’t happen to them because of the technologies they have and the commander’s vision which is 360 degrees in almost all tanks, what I mean is how is it possible for this to happen to me I have a tank in front of me behind a rock, I’m predicting its movement by its sound, and I’m still with the engine off, and there’s a point where its engine stops being heard too and it passes in front of me out of nowhere with no sound from the engine, and either I kill it or it kills me, or for example things that have happened to me too is, I’m advancing through an open field I look to one side there’s no one and a bullet comes at me looking from that side and a tank appears out of nowhere but I’m already dead of course, but while looking at that fixed point with binoculars that depending on if it is the crew should be looking for the tank, If he’s looking there and doesn’t see the tank until he shoots at me, and I have the crew almost at maximum capacity, I think my crew members either need glasses or are very nearsighted…

look at the video I posted 3 comments higher.
You’ll get all your answers, and you won’t like it.
i havent played much for a few days and when I’ve came back pretty much no vehicle is making noise this is stupidly bad
yeah I noticed that too I havent played this week and when I logged on earlier I don’t hear any engines but planes.
It’s becoming aggravating now…

I’m not crazy!!
I’m feling the same, no engine sound unless the other tanks (ally or enemie) is in a really close distance.
I’m feling that every hill, every building block the sound.
I have already encountered a situation when a tank pick a corner and I only ear it when a saw it.
