Engine sounds are now based on line of sight

I mean… every time I think to myself Gajin cant design something this badly they just shout “hold my vodka” and blow my expectations out of the water.

Did you wondered why you cant hear tanks even though you should? Is is keen vision? Is it your sound setup? Nope its simple fact that sound is only played when tank engine is in line of sight. I know it sounds ridiculous and yes when I saw it in game I was baffled as well. You can easily test it.

I noticed it first when ZSU-57 was driving away from me on Campania and went behind gazebo at B point where it went silent. I was like “Ok maybe he is far away that I cant hear it”, but then he appeared again and made sound? Then Tiger 2 came from our spawn and I heard him but then went behind rocks and went silent. After that he went past rocks and started making the sound. I watched him and he only made sound when his engine was in the open.

Here is the replay I am talking about. What I described happened when I was in ZSU-23 near the end of the match. Around 9 min mark.

Interesting, I can say I’ve experienced exactly what you’re describing but the vehicle sounds seem different

There is another bug on top of that. It seems game also disables sounds that are outside of camera field of view. So like you look at the tank it makes sound, you turn camera, it does not. Tank can sit in the open and just because not make any sound.

Imagine if in Battlefield or CoD enemies would only make sound if you look at them.

How the frick this went past testing is just like huh?

They killed the audio awareness

yes they are now line of sight based meaning it is way easier for you to fully flank a enemy team without getting spotted (unless they have a hacker/botter on their team). mainly its due to all the people crying about wanting bigger maps but are now crying and throwing a fit for less engine noise

Yep, this has happened a lot to me.

its dumb as thats not how sound waves work

Probably because wanting bigger maps in order for matches not to turn into mindless chaotic CoD:Shipment-resembling messes has no relation whatsoever with tanks suddenly being stealthy allowing a T-80 to be 3m behind your back without you being able to hear it?

Tiny ass maps with electric tanks just leads to zero value “gameplay” where the meta is zooming around like it’s Mario Kart, except now also with stealth technology that doesn’t even let you know you have a T-80 3m rushing from a street behind you like a headless chicken because it’s not making a sound for some reason.

We want to be able to realistically rely in our audio-visual cue-guided situational awareness capabilities to outplay the enemy, instead of the game being ZOOM ZOOM REFLEXES BOOM BOOM PHEW FAST FAST REFLEXES GO BOOM.
