Is it possible to use your landing gear as emergency countermeasures? I could easily see the case for it acting as chaff but it also sparks when it blows off so maybe as a weak flare as well.
No… there is no way it produces anywhere enough heat to even register in an IR seeker and its too small to affect any radar.
The closest I can think of is when they use to stick chaff packets inside the airbrakes of Harriers. That way, if needed, they could open the airbrake and dump some chaff (this was before they got AN/ALE-40 countermeasures)

Yup, they also stuck a chaff packet between bombs and the rail, so when a bomb was dropped, so was some chaff

Yeah, but thats because IR signatures arent modeled, its based entirely on thrust. So rockets and missiles are really hot targets whilst some afterburning jets are ice cold
