EMBT should receive DM53 or SHARD. OFL F1 is completely inappropiate for a pinnacle-of-the-tree MBT

  • Yes, OFL F1 is deficient.
  • No, OFL F1 is appropiate.

EMBT is suppossed to represent the pinnacle of the French and German Ground trees:

As a 2018 technology demonstrator meant to depict the future of European land war machines, it makes no sense that the tank is limited to a hopelessly obsolete munition choice.

Since the gun meets all 120×570mm NATO standards, it is fully cross-compatible with German-manufactured ammunition; therefore, DM53 should be the Top ammo choice for EMBT.

It’s fine lmao it’s not like it’s changed over s1 or s2 turret wise it should share the same ammo of thoses tanks.
And shard is barely known about lmao not enough to exactly be added

H… how is the turret design related to the tank’s ammunition choice?

Most NATO tank guns can use any other NATO munitions. Standardization and interoperability has always been a priority precisely for this reason.

Yet they don’t irl or in-game and imo that should stay it loses uniqueness if every tank has m829a3 or dm53 or whatever having the french options even if worse is nicer to see

More just no reason to change the ammo when the tanks in game use F1 because then youd have everyone asking for x ammo for y tank because it can

All Strv 122s use DM53 ingame
All Arietes use DM53 ingame

EMBT getting DM53 wouldn’t be the first time a standard NATO gun uses a standard NATO shell.

You also seem to forget that, at the very least, the German EMBT would be using DM53 if it entered German service since it’s the main German service shell (it’s actually DM63, but we haven’t got that one yet).

You also forget that German companies played enormous roles in EMBT. Who’s to say it couldn’t use DM53? Only because “the turret is Leclerc’s”, it doesn’t mean it should be using the early 2000 shells from Leclerc.

We’ve literally got 3x Strv 122s with unhistorical DM53 (as well as Ariete, but that’s not as funny). Yet somehow your problem comes with EMBT getting it…?

And I think that was a stupid decision for them to make and I hope they revert it. With the arietes they actually needed them due to how horrible they preformed.

What is was never meant to enter. It was not a service tank also then your asking the question of can a larger round like dm53 fit in the standard Autoloader and can you prove it.

Yes lmao it should share the stats of Leclerc not the ammo from leopards. Also you meant Early 2000 shells ignoring dm53 is from the 90s if it had better ammo it should have it but the french didn’t develop much

Then where do you draw the line according to which it makes sense to you that it would be using OFL F1 in German service instead of DM53?

The tank was never meant to enter service, but it did in War Thunder; for that reason it should be depicted in a manner that remains consistent and sensible to the way in which it would have.

Why would the German EMBT be using OFL F1? “Guys, I know we have DM53 (63), but what if we purchased OFL F1s for whatever reason, which is much worse? Let’s go for that, yeah!” xD

Having a round seen on 10.3 & 11.7 MBTs is fine?
You act as if it has M1A2 SEP3 or Strv 122 armor.
I can play an EMBT equivalent vehicle at 11.7 USA.

What other french choices are there.

Should have a better 122 hull due to 2a7 + mexas

No because I understand it’s a tank that was never meant to enter service but as a tech demo or development platform

Or again its a french turret and french autoloader on a platform not for service why would it use German ammo in your imaginary situation (ignoring ofl F1 is just dm43) and again would the autoloader fit dm53. Will it keep the same reload many different other issues then just oh it’s technically capable

Well, that’s certainly a… take, to be sure, hahah.

I guess that’s what happens in Forums, people have… takes.

It’s a full french turret again why would you want it to have German ammo. Even then if you gave the German one through some imaginary capabilities or needs then what you’ll have people asking for all leclercs to have dm53 or Abrams to get dm53 or even the 120 merkavas.

Shells are not a part of the turret.

Turrets are generally, you know… empty? And people take shells from outside and place them inside…

So, if an EMBT was in the German army, like it is in War Thunder, German people would probably grab German ammo and put it inside. Wouldn’t go like: “Hey, Hanz, call the French and get them to insert French ammo into our German service vehicle!”

Following this logic, the French EMBT should be using OFL F1; but for the sake of balance, I think it should get DM53 too. OFL F1 is a TERRIBLE shell at 12.7. Gameplay wise, it’s odd that it sits there representing the pinnacles of the trees.

EDIT: and like HermitCrack said below:

I think it would be appropriate for a German-French hybrid to have access to both nations’ ammo. Isn’t that the point of a universal european tank?

You keep acting like it was meant to be a service vehicle. It was not and also stop acting like F1 isn’t just dm43 lmao

Correct it’s not a good shell lmao but what other shells did the french develop that we know about. And it’s not the pinnacle of the trees that would be Leclerc evolution or capint and 2a8 and a.rc 3.0 🤷‍♀️

This doesn’t really feel like a controversial take? It’s apparently a glass cannon, give it the DM53 so it can at least do its job as such.

The Leclercs, with OFL F1 and their current armor, should be 12.0 or 12.3 at most, and in no way 12.7.

Regarding shells, S.XXI and future Leclercs like XLR could get SHARD, which is at least DM53-equivalent. No, we don’t know 100% its length; but even the lowest estimation (DM53-like) would be significantly better than O*L F1.

In War Thunder, it is. How do you otherwise call the tank destroying T-80s and being destroyed by MI-28s?

Because then your opening the can of worms for everyone to ask for X ammo whenever Y tank does bad and correct the turret armour is non existent

Correct they could but again we know absolutely nothing of the important things for its addition currently

As if that can hadn’t been opened the moment all Arietes and Strv 122s got DM53…

Except in EMBT’s case it makes WAY more sense than in Strv 122’s. It would be a gameplay consideration as it was with Ariete, except with making more historical sense since it’s a join effort tank with Germany and, in the German one’s case, in German service ingame.

We know everything except length. Assuming DM53’s length at worst, it would penetrate 640mm at point blank from Leclerc’s gun. Plenity of an improvement over F1.
