it should be a lot better than that, even if its not the new best spaa
I think you have completely missunderstood how this missile works. It’s an air-to-air missile that has been re-programmed (zero physical changes) to be launched as a surface-to-air missile.
It has its own IIR optical seeker in the nose (Just like any IR based missile on any aircraft) the only thing the radar does is tell the missile in what direction to fly when it’s launched. After launch there is zero communication between the vehicle and the missile and the missile functions exactly like any airborne IR-missile (with some changes to guidance logic to achieve optimal range for the new launch conditions).
The IRIS-T IIR sensor in its nose can angle itself in a 180deg dome relative to the direction it’s pointing, meaning that when it’s angled upright at 90deg in the launcher it can see everything around it. I think you’ve misunderstood the 180 and 90 deg to be a “total” angle instead of a “plus minus” angle.
Just compare to any of the first ever built IR-missiles, the only thing the carrier did was to tell the missile “arm” and “fire”, nothing else, no extra sensors, no radar slaving, nothing. With the IRIS-T everything is located in the missile, the pilot/operator just tells it were to go and it goes there looking for targets if it doesn’t already have one.
i think the main question is :
in game will the radar targetting data be enough for the missile to be fired, or will a solid IR lock still be necessary ?
I hope at minimum it’s radar slaved, otherwise it wouldn’t make sense. but otherwise yeah, the biggest question is if it will have LOAL or not.
All aspect range of for the while 12km
What brochure is that?
Oh, that. Well, they you are mistaken
IF that is what they mean
Thats air launched stats
Yes, and what is the website about?
Its still the same missle. The iris-t still can lock on over that range.
If you mean it shiuld have more locknon range then the 12km. Well wouldnt make much difference for the ground launched one at least
Yes, but IF that is what they mean, as it migh be a fancy way of saying it can lock anything within the envelope after flying in IOG for a while, then it would mean 25km.
If that is how they want the sentence to be read then i would personally also read it as 25km lock on range. which would in-game make quite a bit of difference if you can launch at planes flying towards you before they are even within the max flight distance as the plane will be within it before the missile arrives giving you way better effective range.
Though “Compatible” doesn’t really tell us anything in the end.
True as well
would be a very roundabout way of saying that, so i doubt that is what was meant
Please. I have seen more roundabout ways of saying that a radar has 40 rpm than this one.
xD please do share if you can find it
but yeah you have a point but in this case it says that it has an acquisition range compatible with its full kinematic range, to me that just reads it can see far
I will, but it was something in lines of “providing fast update rate allowing for precise target location” blah blah blah, ending at 1.5s target update rate, so 40 rpm,
Do you mean 0.667 Hz?
I dont think Hz can be used in this scenario
