MiG-21PFM Two-Tone Camo

Egyptian Airforce MiG-21PFM

The Egyptian Air Force employed a distinctive two-tone desert camouflage on some of its MiG-21PFM aircraft. This scheme consisted of a pale sand yellow base with bands of dark brown, offering effective concealment over the arid terrain of Sinai and southern Egypt. It became more common in the post-1973 period, likely chosen for its simplicity. While visually less intricate than other patterns, it still allowed for visual disruption and reduced ground visibility. The two-tone scheme was typically applied with soft edges, and sometimes included colored identification markings on the nose and tail for friend-or-foe recognition. This paint scheme was used not only on the MiG-21PFM, but also likely appeared on other Egyptian MiG-21 variants.

Considering that War Thunder now features the Suez map, along with the MiG-21F-13, MiG-17 and Su-7BMK receiving Egyptian camouflage options, it seems fitting that another veteran of those conflicts, the MiG-21PFM, should also receive this treatment. The aircraft played a key role in Egypt’s air operations during its troubled past with Israel, and the two-tone sand and brown camouflage fits in perfectly. Moreover, this livery has already been faithfully recreated by the community, highlighting its popularity and historical relevance. Adding it officially would not only enhance immersion but also pay tribute to a well-documented part of Cold War air combat history.
