Duplicate Vehicles: Why We Add Them

Dear Gaijin development team,

First of all, I would like to express my appreciation for the continuous effort you have put into War Thunder. Maintaining such a large-scale game with so many nations, vehicles, and different gameplay systems is undoubtedly a huge challenge. I understand that every addition and balance change requires careful consideration, not only from a development perspective but also to ensure the overall health and long-term playability of the game.

As a long-time player who enjoys War Thunder, I truly appreciate the work you have done and the improvements you have brought to the game. However, I would also like to share some concerns and suggestions regarding the development of the Chinese tech tree.

I completely understand your business considerations and the effort you put into maintaining the game’s balance and playability. However, I would like to ask why the development of the Chinese tech tree has been progressing so slowly.

After researching modern Chinese vehicles, I found that the top-tier lineup is currently limited to only the different variants of the Type 99 (early, second, and third production versions) and the Type 99A. In reality, there are many more vehicles that could provide unique and enjoyable gameplay experiences.

For example, the PLZ-08, which was revealed in 2005 and has multiple variants, could be a great addition to expand the Chinese ground forces. There are also still many issues with vehicle interior details and modeling accuracy that have not been fixed.

There is also a situation that many Chinese players find quite ironic: the current top-tier Chinese vehicle is actually the M1A2T, a tank exported by the United States to Taiwan. While we understand the reasons behind its addition, it also highlights the lack of domestic Chinese top-tier vehicles available in the game.

I sincerely hope you can seriously consider expanding the diversity of Chinese vehicles in War Thunder. The Chinese tech tree has great potential, with many unique platforms and variants that could provide different gameplay experiences.

I do not want to see more meaningless copy-paste vehicles with only minor name changes or simple reskins. Instead, I hope future updates can focus on adding vehicles with unique characteristics, improving existing models, and giving the Chinese tech tree the depth and variety it deserves.

Thank you for taking the time to read this feedback. I hope the development team can consider these suggestions and continue making War Thunder a better game for players around the world.

Bleh bleh bleh all nations don’t have as much diversity as they should.

Since I am a Chinese player, I naturally pay more attention to the development of Chinese vehicles. I don’t deny that other nations also need more diversity and have their own problems. I am just sharing my perspective as a player and pointing out that the Chinese tech tree also has many opportunities for expansion with unique vehicles.

If a vehicle exists, eventually it will come to the game.

War Thunder exists in a drip-feed content industry environment: the game has been around for 14 years and needs to be around many more.

This means that naturally the pacing of content release is going to be incredibly important to them. They can’t expand trees fast if they want to have an ongoing stream of content coming in.

The best way to enjoy War Thunder is to play the content that’s already there while patiently waiting for more stuff to come in. There’s a lot, both coming and staying.

I would also recommend playing multiple tech trees. Since I started doing that, my enjoyment level has risen and the wait for new content has become much less annoying. Also, when an update comes around, it means that more stuff is relevant to you, creating a positive feedback loop.

I understand the effort of the development team and the difficulties involved in creating and maintaining such a large game. I am not asking the team to immediately add all these vehicles in a short period of time.

What I hope to see is a long-term plan to gradually expand and enrich the tech trees of all nations. Every nation has its own unique vehicles and history that deserve to be represented in the game.

Since I am a Chinese player, I naturally pay more attention to the Chinese tech tree and hope to see more unique Chinese vehicles added in the future. My point is not that China should receive special treatment, but that every nation should have a more complete and diverse lineup over time.:)

So that’s why, effective immediately, they’re making it so you have to take Leopard 1A5BE into an 8.7 or 9.3+ lineup. Or play 9.0 with just 1 spawn due to the lack of other options

Because France is the most important nation and not yk the nation who made it.

France (Belgium, just France’s tree in game) also uses M1001, M1050, and M1060 series ammo, superior to DM33

Notice how I said 1A5BE not 1A5?

Not in game. But yes they used it gajin doesn’t seem to want to add the ammos.

And the point was:

Leopard 1A5BE was added specifically to follow lineups that France has, as they said

1A5BE being down-tiered to 9.0, whilst the only other really worthwhile ground gamemode vehicle, the Gazelle, goes up to 9.3, means 1A5BE can no longer do that

Meaning either:

A. Leopard 1A5BE is lazy copy paste that accomplishes nothing, the reason for the backlash against it being added in the first place

OR

B. Leopard 1A5BE gets its MECAR Ammunition, keeping it at 9.3, making it now more unique and more useful to French lineups

Yes no some of that ammo would be way better then a 9.3 tank

It was. Same thing with every German tank in the french tt. Unneeded and useless

Some, such as M1060CV, would be VERY powerful for 9.3, yes. But MECAR has been in the 105mm APFSDS game for a while

And also the point is to use said ammo to make 1A5BE no longer lazy copy paste, of which it could accomplish

Give it the MECAR ammo and put it at 10.0. It’s another thin line up, but unlike 9.3, France doesn’t have nearly as many missing options for 10.0 MBTs as it does at 9.3.

This doesn’t answer why China has so many vehicles- they have their own, why do they need an Abrams? Why do they need an Su-30? There is clearly a favouritism to a country here who spends more in the game. They do not need it at all.

because some nations don’t see Taiwan as their own country, for WW2 aircraft this works, as at the time they were, but modern stuff is kinda just bs, but i guess it could be considered a sub tree which even then i find BS, it would be the same as having a non-captured SU-30SM in the US tech tree

I personally don’t think the M1A2T was a good choice for the Chinese tree. If Gaijin really wanted to introduce more foreign-origin vehicles, I think it would have made more sense after expanding the tree further and adding more unique vehicles first.

Adding the M1A2T feels quite out of place, especially when China still has many domestic platforms that could be represented. To me, it feels more like a response to previous complaints about the Chinese top-tier lineup, such as the 7.1-second reload and the 577mm penetration issue, rather than a solution that improves the diversity of the tree.

I believe each nation should have more vehicles that represent its own characteristics, instead of relying too much on copy-paste or vehicles from other countries. Unique vehicles are what make different tech trees interesting.

Su-30MKK is a different case. It is a reasonable addition because it was developed specifically for China by Russia based on Chinese requirements, and it represents an important part of China’s modern aviation history.

I don’t want to debate the political question of Taiwan’s status, because I am a Chinese player and I firmly support the One-China principle. This is ultimately a political matter, and I don’t think it is something that should be decided by players in a game discussion.XD

Doesn’t want to get political, but states his political opinions. Make it make sense dude.

Stating my position doesn’t mean I want to debate politics. The discussion is about Gaijin’s tech tree design, not politics.
