might be the first one i have seen
We’ll probably have to wait longer than that. They must be on holidays right now.
“Looking into 2025” decal contains a Richelieu class.
I think this is good news
Moreover, the photo shows Richelieu from 1943, which is great.
Richelieu 1943 refit in US to USA naval line
I joke, would take NC or SD over Richelieu any day anyways
Thankfully, we shouldn’t have to worry about Richelieu’s APC Model 1936 shell being incorrectly classified as SAP this time. Official sketch already shows that the hardened cap is 12 cm thick, which is much more than the 38 cm Psgr. L/4,4 round from Bismarck.
Richelieu was never operated by the Americans, she simply went to America for refit as it was the nearest capable port that was low-risk and available (all the British ones were at full capacity with British ships and some American ones).

I did, the joke just didn’t really make sense lol.
But yeah, the US has indeed got its own heavy hitters that in some cases would be more powerful.
Like 1950’s nukowa
The nuke shells for Iowa would be just as much of a detriment at in-game ranges leaching your crew for minimal effect 20kn warhead would have an explosive and shock effect effective to up to 12km meaning you’d take out your own AA which the Iowa class in particular has loads. Particularly as the studies from Bikini Atol found that airburst warheads had minimal effect on surface fleet ships.
Very useful at the time for their given role of nuclear enforcement and nuclear artillery, but impractical for surface warfare and also for in-game a detriment given you’d be taking as much damage as the other ships to your AA. Also it would never come to game.
You would mostly want to stick with the APCBC given its one of the most powerful rounds ever created or even theorised.
Personally I look forward to North Carolina class as one of if not the best ‘treaty’ battleships, and then of course the Iowa class is very formidable, South Dakota 1920 is also quite a feat though a systematically flawed design.
And with that we’re off topic now.
That reminds me, theoretically it could be possible to mate the 8" W79 to a modified 16"/50 AP projectile’s filler cavity. Which would create some sort of diabolical gun-fired fission-boosted APHE combination. (Guess you might be able to call that a variation of the Casaba Howitzer idea?) Most certainly overkill for anything built, and probably overkill for anything short of an ultra-battleship that makes the maximum Tillman designs look like a large pool toy.
That is, assuming the fuzing system can handle the impact of the round to the target, the nuclear burster doesn’t pre-detonate and probably many other failure modes I’m yet to think of.
Ahem but I digress. This is the Dunkerque thread. I’m going to try to finish my grind for her before 2025. About 1/4th through the RP req right now.
So far after a dozen of game with the dunkerque
My only reaction is to grind the russian and germany nation
Getting turret knocked nearly permanent, having shell that doesnt pen anything except lower tier ship, and ammo who explose nearly at the first shoot.
Its not fun to play with it. Its may be worst than lorraine/bretagne/courbet … with i got better score than dunkerque even in top tier game
I’m sorry you had to find out the hard way. We would have been happy to help you come to that conclusion without having to grind the trash French tree. That was so painful.
And also don’t forget guys - France has NOTHING better to suggest as good top ship in the future, except Richelieu class (and actually it’s a big question, how it will feel while fighting Iowa, Yamato and Bismarck)
Strasbourg will be same as Dunkerque, except slightly better belt armour (BUT front 200mm plate will be the SAME! And one of main problem will stay - almost every penetration in your turret will damage your magazines, cause they are just too close to each other)
Also except other wonderful Courbet and Bretagne class ships we can wait for Normandie (it actually was started to build), and it’s interesting, it has 12 guns, but guess what? It’s the same 340mm baguettes type what Bretagne has, you will penetrate nothing, so just forget about fighting with Krons, Scharnhorsts, Amagi and etc
And that’s ALL about battleships… Nothing better than Richelieu wasn’t even started to build, while there are chances even to see Montana and H-39, Sovetskii Soyuz type… Japan will have Nagato, Yamato, Tosa…
So well, Italian and French fleet are extremely poor in this topic… Really sad guys, but I don’t even know what we can wait here, except Richelieu :C
I am hoping for the Alsace class ship, but that is definitely France’s end of line vessel.
Lyon class as well would be a nice filler vehicle.
But I also don’t particularly care about the ‘laid-down’ rule so long as things are realistic, have historical basis, and are balanced.
the only viable nations are russia germany and japan
Actually, USSR naval is also currently out of OP for now. Germany and Japan stood still.
