I guess its just a balancing factor then considering the reloads on some of the other ships. Really hope they don’t come back and change it, she’s the only thing I have to look forward to this update (on the naval side at least).
I gess reload is a balancing factory since they said in a q&a that it was a balancing factory for tanks, si why not doing the same for ship
Seems to be a balance factor. But they pick and choose where to apply it
Well they’ve rejected prior reports based on historical reload. Seemingly picking and choosing where to apply balance particularly as many of these ships have not been in the meta eg Rodney
I believe Richelieu has the wrong shell in-game for her configuration. She is stated to be ‘coming to game in its’ [her] late war refit’
As you can well, see the shell is labelled 1949. In actuality until 1945 France had no HE shell for the ships, the Brits manufactured 15" HE Shells for these guns issued from 1945, France started issuing their own HE shells from 1949, so if this shell was swapped it would still suite her refit, post-war Richelieu starts to lose AA so this is ideal from that frame of view, however then reload also becomes a factor as it would be 1.3rpm like Littorio, but with more AA?? 1949 would have optimum reload and worse AA, 1945… less so for the reload, better for the AA.
I’m not really sure what to do here I also don’t have the shell blueprints or docs yet. I believe the British 15" shell may be better, if it’s based on the actual British 15" HE shell then it has more than 100kg of HE filler, which I would bet is more than the French 1949 shell (I don’t have dev server access and everyone I know is asleep). It seems plausible they could be based on the same shells as the British 15" shell is only a ~5kg lighter, which could be accounted for.
EDIT
Thanks to @Morvran for grabbing this for me, so yes chances are if its British it has higher HE filler, its also 381mm, which is the same calibre as the British 15"? So i’m thinking a British shell, with modded charges to support the French guns higher MV. that does still leave the reload as an issue though, a you can see with Littorio, Rodney, US ships in general, Gaijin have no aversion to nerfing reloads, even when better times are available.
I think Dunkerque class received a good buff.
No (and yes) they have been moddel correctly, which is a basic right for all vehicules in WT and an obligation for dev marketing their game as ‘realistic’
Should we create a new discussion topic for Richelieu?
I would like to see various discussion, but I cannot find any other place except here.
Am i the only one to find the shell dispertion of Richelieu on the dev server to be absolutly dogshit ? Even at close range ?
I guess it’s all about it being the pre 1945 and not the post war Richi with the delay added between shots…
It’s kinda ass cause everything else is great, do you think this issue could be address or are we doomed " BecAusE IT’s NoT THe PosT wAr ReFit" ? Do we have the actual values of the in game dispertion ?
It is very more than the dunk and the stras at least for me
It has the shell of the post war refit soooo……
Might as well give a report a go
Richelieu has 380mm/45 gun barrels, Dunkerque has 330mm/52 gun barrels.
Dispersion is currently hard linked to barrel length, so the shorter 45 caliber barrels will have inherently lower mechanical accuracy than 52 caliber barrels.
We’ll have to ask for gaijin to properly rework dispersion. Which is apparently “in the works(?)”.
Post war shell with the dunkerque SD19 propelant charges stats 😶🌫️.
The french shell should be faster and have betterpen because of that. But yet again only the russian can have the delusional optimale treatment…
I don’t know enough about the French shells to comment here, 800 m/s seems about right for the French 381mm gun though?
I’m mainly just hoping to see Gaijin clarify which refit is ingame? Seems very bizarre that they’d add a 1949 shell and then say its a 1945 configuration…
Speak of gameplay - yes, for realism - no
It is interesting that many people scream “uNhIsToRiCaL” when a fix is in favour of the vehicle’s performance in game, whilst becoming silent when a historical fix can turn against them.
This is an entirely unhistorical buff - these turrets would have been not operational if the upper ammoracks are empty. Now there’s no one calling for historical accuracy and let’s praise the unhistorical change.
Seems like a weird straw man argument. I don’t see any evidence of your claims. As long as changes are applied equally to each nation, I don’t see a problem, and I don’t think others will either.
The 800 m/s( 1943) shell is the one made by crucible steel with US propelant charges. Im talking about the one with 785m/s ( 1936 ) .
The richelieu left france in a rush because of the germans and the boat wasnt 100% completed ( some missing secondaries AA and ammo) .
when she fire for her first battle at dakar , one of the gun blew up because the design of the breach was not well designed to wistand the power of the SD21 propelant charges ( very spicy ) .
So after the incident by precaution the commander ordered to load the SD 19 charges left by the dunkerque previously at the base and to fire with it .
The SD 19 being way less spicy gave the round way slower velocity than with the SD21 ( 785m/s instead of 830 m/s !! ) .
It kinda make sens in a certain way since it’s the refit version but it’s pretty hypocrites knowing that the soyouz is getting the very very veryyy optimal theoretical numbers .
even weirder gaijin seems to have direct sources for the pen value since they didnt seem to have respected the jacob de marre formula … ( update im stupid it’s 1000 m in game so it realistic so now we have to show them that we want the SD21 stats for historical and gameplay purposes)

idealy the french shell + SD21 charges 795 mm of pen ( at 0m 0° ofc )
I was wondering why the French AP had a slower velocity than the American Crucible…
Havn’t played that in about half a year. Still absolutely atrocious. As soon as the enemies fire at you, you know this think will explode any second. And if not, it usually sinks after 1-2 salvos anyway…
