Outclassed by the Gripen defensively with triple the amount of CMs, dogfight performance and HMS for orbital IR slinging. (The F-15A does NOT have HMS btw).
Outclassed by the Su-27 in offensive capabilities while also carrying HMS for orbital IR slinging.
And on par with the Mirage 4000, yet falling behind on dogfight performance.
That mix of one-on-one comparisons to the top dogs back then isn’t the definition of top aircraft.
It's time to stop with the "Duh F-15A was the best top aircraft at release" narrative, it aged like milk and it only makes you all who says it as untrustworthy.
Not part of the topic, but as you insist, I’ll go briefly: Necessary to introduce China’s domestic ARH, while undeniably bad for what it was, China also got the Mirage 2000 with MICAs.
Good thing as well it’s been over a year and a half since that and China not only got the J-10, but the J-11B.
