I genuinely don’t think they do. Based on how I’ve heard they “make” maps, it’s a miracle there are even 10 good maps in the game. I’m only at 8.0 rn so I’m not fully aware of how bad it gets, but given there are maybe 5 good maps in each BR range, it’s a miracle that people put up with this gamemode. Fire Arc gets a pass from me because arcade movement makes it extremely fun, but there are so many garbage maps that you have to play at mid-high tier that are literally only good at 4.0 and below.
Here are some examples of maps I genuinely despise. Attica is mostly sightline and the only good part of the map is C anyway. Carpathians is mostly sightline and the only ways out of spawn are the most egregious sightlines I’ve ever experienced in any game or chokepoints so bad that 2007 TF2 is better. Sinai is mostly sightline and you can’t push literally anywhere if you don’t control B because it’s a sightline to the whole map. Rhine just in general is awful, it always devolves to spawn camping. Fields of Poland is like entirely sightline. You get my point. Please use the resources you would spend on adding the next nazi prototype vehicle and spend them hiring a competent level design team to fix your game.
Playtest the map? i dont even think they play the game in any aspect nevermind the maps. All the decisions they make is based on opinions on up high who have no idea on the actual state of the game. And they refuse to listen to the community (unless it comes to buffing russia of course) and every update they release breaks 10+ minor things and one major game breaking bug without fail.
They have to understand how much their maps suck since they had to nerf traction to stop wheeled vehicles getting into spots they didn’t bother checking
It has nothing to do with laziness; it’s much deeper than that. Testing this requires staff, but also adding a process to the content creation, which takes time and therefore money.
Playtesting can only show so much about a map. Like, consider the hundred-thousands of matches on Vietnam, and how many of them had ONE player find that one weird spot.
I recently discovered a weird spot on a map that someone showed me… years after the map’s introduction.
