Hi, I was wondering is there a way to dodge multiple radar missles (AIM-54A/AIM-120, etc).
All I see is videos of people dodging one missle, and thats fine, but what to do when you in lobby full of, lets say f14’s, and you see like 4-5 missles going at you?
If were talking about 13.0+ with AMRAAMs, and multiple missiles get launched at you from distance of 20km+, the easiest choice is to go cold for a while.
Once the motor burns out, missiles start losing energy fast.
Sub 20km, best defense would be preventing getting into such situation in the first place as theres not much one can do.
Make the missiles lose speed by continuously turning left and holding that direction and then turning right
Pull hard left and right when you think the missile is close to you
The way I did it in the video is imperfect since I only have a level 6 crew on my Mirage F1C so I kept passing out and had to airbrake a few times.
Oke so first thing I notice its your altitude I ussually go really low so maybe thats why is sooo difficult to dodge anything I will try this… Also best to keep the plane accelerate and not brake too much?
I like to hover around 3.5km altitude to bait the Tomcats into firing the Phoenixes at a longer range and then dragging those Phoenixes at lower altitudes. Altitude also just gives me breathing room.
Depends on your goal. If you’re trying to manage closure from the enemy to make the missile travel further to get to you then slowing down is ideal. If you’re doing multiple maneuvers that will cost you speed then I usually go full afterburner. If you need that hard turn of min radius then braking would be wise.
can anyone tell me what did I do wrong here… Im at 90 degrees, chaffing, like what else I need to do to beat simple click of a mouse??? this is becoming ridiculous…
You should post in sensor mode because that way we can see what the missile is doing.
Anyway from the looks of it you might not be notching perfectly, you should always try to align the MSL alert to 3-9 line. That or IOG got you, basically you didn’t change your heading so the missile guessed where you’d be. Try to slowly pitch down or pitch up just to be out of the missile’s IOG.
Looks like you did it too late. Once the missile gets close enough, it stops caring for chaff. Best thing to do is to notch while it is still far out.
I have been able to fly at 7k+ alt against aim54s by doing it. Once they go pit bull, i notch, throw out 2 burst of chaff, and wait for a few seconds before turning back in.
This has helped my yak141 a lot becuase it lets me nuke the f14s with my r27er from longer ranges, because of thinner air.
So being at 90 degrees and chaffing also doesnt work I also need to pitch up or down… Oke I will try that hopefully I dont neeed to do like 20 more things since Im already bored that I need to do so many complex and accurate things to beat a simple mindless click of a mouse.
I wouldnt say you need to pitch. Going 90 degrees and putting out some chaff will work, assuming it isnt danger close.
The biggest thing i learned was to not listen to the rwr while notching. When you are notching and throw out chaff, the rwr will still tell you that you are locked even if the missile is going for the chaff.
If you just turn once then the missile also only has to correct once and then i might still have enough energy to fly somewhat straight into your line of flight (especially if its fired from a higher altitude than you are).
I personally turn AT LEAST twice, preferably three times, a full +90 to -90 degrees from where the missile is coming. That way it looses way more momentum and if i still see it getting close towards the end; i climb because the missile has no more fuel and thus automatically lose speed and turning capability trying to climb with you.
