As stated above. Do you actually enjoy the game? Do you get off because the game made you upset, or do you get off feeling satisfied after playing? Have you uninstalled the game multiple times seeing the game more addicting than to let go? No, this isn’t the preface for an equivalent AA meeting
I’m legitimately curious on how critically other people think of it. Because in my mind, most people come back to it because there really isn’t any other game like it. There is a semblance of realism, but there are many times when the game completely abandons that for gameplay purposes, or you wind up with some pretty bad game balance.
Many times I tell myself “War Thunder would be better if it was just a game you bought” instead of being F2P so you wouldn’t have many of the issues that plagues the game now.
But as it stands, we have what we have.
after fully researching air for france, italy, israel, japan, and soon china and britain. And after fully researching ground for france and britain, and soon china and italy, i can tell you, that i do indeed enjoy the game.
the fact that i can hop from idk, 7.7 france to 10.3 china to 4.7 britain etc. whenever i feel like, or play realistic or sim whenever i feel like, just makes it enjoyable. And certainly playing with friends makes it even more enjoyable (mostly TAWAR)
Yeah I have a lot of fun, only playing Air RB 1.0-10.0. Didn’t ever uninstall.
Learning how to fight in the air is very satisfying, and the skill ceiling is inhumanely high, so I will be able to learn for years to come. Air Sim brings even more opportunity to have fun learning more.
I tried Ground RB for a bit, but I cannot grasp how to correctly decide on positioning, and the videos showcasing cheaters in ground mode don’t make me too enthusiastic to play more either. The few times I learned new ways to fight in tanks were fun though.
Players being toxic will upset me, and that’s about it.
The issue with War Thunder having less funding is it would be worse than it is today.
War Thunder improves because of its funding mechanism paying the salaries of everyone.
GSB is nice on the rare chance I get to play it because WW2 CAS is quite impotent with SB controls.
I enjoy ASB when people communicate and we get cool impromptu teamwork.
Last friday I had a team of Bf109s and we were constantly relaying info and planning our attacks. Even tho we lost, I look to that match fondly because we put in good effort and had a cool 2 vs 2 tag-team dogfight.
I failed to enjoy ASB on sunday and saturday as I kept joining lobbies with thunderclouds that gave me headaches from lighting, kept running into a million P-61Cs and B26s and Spitfire Lf Mk IXes that killed most of my enjoyment flying my 109.
I have to be in the mood for it. Which is why grinding events sucks so much for me. They are trivial when I want to play the game, but If I dont. They become a massive chore.
Air, can be fun, ARB I have only found a handful of aircraft where I consistantly have fun without total frustration, such as the Spitfire LF MkIX and Tornado Gr4. As well usually whatever is top tier as you cant be uptiered at top tier (usually)
ASB its dependent on the right bracket. Some are really fun some are frustrating as hell. So it can be annoying when im in the mood for the gamemode but the brackets are poor. Though overall the gamemode has become exceedingly stale from the lack of content in 3+ years
There are also dozens if not hundreds of bug reports that have been sat in limbo for years. Many of which can render entire aircraft almost unplayable.
Naval, again, can be fun. I really enjoy a few matches now and then. Though an extended period of time playing back to back naval matches can find me getting burnt out. Much like air. Playing top tier can deal with a lot of frustrations in naval, though at the moment, there is top tier, and then there is soyuz, The lack of balance is a real shame
Ground… I want to enjoy it. But the gamemode is poorly balanced, the maps are bad and just feels like a buggy mess more times than not.
Yes, i love the game, i adore the game, i put all my time in this game, i quit my job for this game, i play this game 24/7, i absolutely in love with this game, i think about it every single second, i cant handle not playing the game for 1 second, i shower while playing this game, i touch grass with the game on, the snail love me, the snail love me, the snail love me, it give me everything, i love the snail, the snail love me-
If you love the snail, click this
Fun only happen when i get a kill, otherwise its a miserable experiences
Easily one of them, the need for incessant grinding, would be greatly diminished as it’s a paid product. Quite literally, Air RB version of Aces of Thunder. And since there is a price barrier you have to rely on keeping good will with players unlike F2P where if someone leaves, another user can just as easily come in, rewarding even terrible short term decisions.
If you paid for the game, and still had to do the amount of grinding that you did with the current F2P model, it would completely drive people off.
So you would have access to a lot of smaller QoL features. Similarly. I’m more than likely not grinding FOMO event vehicles when most vehicles would in theory be easily available and not having to play the game when I don’t want to.
Now will it be all perfect hunky-dory and there won’t be anything else that will be tacked on? Heck no. But generally speaking. I find that a game that costs actual money as a barrier to entry you won’t usually be slapped with F2P game tier grinds. USUALLY. There’s always exceptions.
I’m not saying this is the ‘correct’ thought process. But I find that hold true in my experience.
Why? there’s no obvious link to make this true at all - what would teh game be like - would ther be a tach tree at all? If so do you think it would all be instantly avaiable or what??
Your “easy one” makes no sense to me at all - I see no reasoning how Gaijin could get the revenue stream they need and also reasoning as to how the game would improve beyond wishful thinking.
Ther is no obvious link between being a 1 time purchase and what you say would be the results of such a change.
I still enjoy the game even though the Dev’s believe that modern Russian equipment is the best in the world… and that they hate British vehicles for some reason.
Luckily I have enough vehicles and countries to move up and down depending on my mood.
I enjoy air cuz I’m good at it. I take it easy with naval cuz it’s chill and requires no skill. I hate ground cuz I suck ass (unless I‘m doing cas, then it’s kinda ok)
I’m not going to argue about it with you bro because it’s basically all anecdotal and what I prefer. I find I’m much happier with a paid game that has some downloadable content you can buy to support the game’s continued existence. Versus a free to play game that tries to make you miserable to pay up. Except with War Thunder there is an actual decent game attached to the money extractor.
I go through different stages. I wake up in the morning and think, I’ll play a lot this afternoon, at least 20 games. Then it’s time to play, I play two games, and just watching the ridiculous rebounds, the game saving opposing players thanks to the damage bug, or my team falling apart three minutes into the game, I end up playing six games in seven hours.
In the end, I find it more interesting to watch YouTube videos of Vietnamese old people doing massages on the ground by the side of the road for $2.
