I’ve been playing naval arcade recently and I’ve noticed how annoying these bots are. They steal your kills and make it hard to play aircraft. I think what really makes it worse, is that there’s a couple of bots that just target you until you’re dead. They just pelt you until your armor sections get blacked out. I can go for the bots but it comes at the risk of enemy players targeting me.
I’m curious on how bots can be reworked or maybe it’s just skill issue on my end. I’m still new to naval
I don’t believe this has to do with skill but how bots works in general. Either is two paths: low efficiency or pin-point accuracy.
This could be solved, I hope, in a system of layers: if the player poses itself inside a layer of threat, the efficiency of the bot increases or decreases, depending on the distance and other factors.
Yea, your not alone. Gaijins AI was always bad, for example, before teh Naval Arcade aimchange, they where generaly just targets. Unless you where in a plane, then you got shot by a SKR-1 or Köln (Frigate) from 5km rapid fire sniped. They never had to reload and sniped you with simple HE shell.
Now after the update, that has been cranked all teh way up to 11/10. I had a Emden snipe my B-17, when i was hugging the edge of the map, behind my own convoy and later own, when i was half the map away and shot the convoy with my battleship, the convoy shot back with everything they had and hit. Even the Cargo Ships hit me with there AA, perfectly into my Bridge. Just a stream of bullets who thankfully did no harm, cause the bridge armore was way waaayy to thicc.
Ironicly, even the player AA AI got buffed hard but the Auxilliary ground/water accuracy got completly ruined. Anything beyond 5km is never going to be hit and i generally see my auxilliary cannons shot 2km infront of the target and/or shot 4km behind it.
They, at minimum, waste 75% of all ammo they shoot into the water. Even when the crew is Max Leveled Aced.
It just shows to me again how incompetent gaijin is. Same poor quality as usual. I´m 100% certain the only reason why gaijin is still here, is because they have no real competition and said competition does no better.
All of this is also the reason why i call gaijin the soviet union of videogame developers. I´m just waiting for the certain collapse somewhere down the line.
Oh, forgot to mention, the ship AI loved to ram into you. Not sure if it still does though.
They cluster together in a single mass which is why I think they are perceived to be so good at AA. I dont think they are actaully any better than player ships with AI controlled AA, but rather you have a really concentrated mass of AAA that you cannot get through.
So Id have them cross the map on a far wider front, taking multiple different paths from each spawn point.
“Kill stealing” hasnt necessarily been much of an issue for me, but Id just add something like the severe damage/multiple players get the kill system that air has and that resolves that issue.
I have found they can focus fire a single ship down which is a little annoying, but I think this goes back to the first point and might be addressed by that.
The only thing you havent mentioned is that sometimes the AI goes for the cap points and other times they dont. I have had matches before where the AI on the other team capped all 3 points and our teams AI just sat by the cap points but didnt enter them. So they definetly need to work on code regarding Ai actually playing the objectives. because at hte moment, it almsot feels like matches are pre-determined
Bots come close to ruining the game mode imho. Can’t stand em. The maps are too small as it is to be having all the bot clutter, they spawn right on top of you, sail right into you, and, most egregiously, largely determine the eomm/win-loss ratio by making caps and group targeting. Alas I tolerate them b/c I know they’re going nowhere, but I just don’t see what enhancements to the mode they bring >.<
Had a thought. If you switch to firing secondary guns with primary guns and put a continuous stream of secondary gun fire into a target. You increase the chance of getting that last hit too.
Yes I do that all the time - more especially for BB’s and ships like Ikoma that have large non-AAA secondary batteries, but occasionally for others - eg PT boats when trying to get air kills!.
Should really be a switch for each ship uniquely tho, cos I’m often forgetting to switch it on or off when changing ships.
Have made a couple of suggestions for this but none of them got published :(
Or just a bloody keybind to toggle it instead of being buried in the settings.
Like on Vanguard. There will be times when I want to be firing the 8x 5.25" guns at something and there will be times when I want to let the AI have them and be firing HE-VT.
Drives me nuts its an in-setting toggle. If there isnt one already. I really really need to do a suggestion for that.
and I think settings like selecting Air, naval or both for Ai guns is saved per ship as well (dont quote me on that, might double check later). If it does, then there is no reason why it couldnt also do the same for this too. Which then does what you want it to do as well.
I wonder if this is something worth reporting as a bug rather than as a suggested tweak with your other points? Seen this happen a few times myself, it’s like whatever checks the AI does for making a “get in the cap circle” decision didn’t account for all 3 points being capped so they just sit there stuck in a loop doing nothing.
Not here long enough myself to be sure how exactly that sort of thing is done or if it even makes any difference.
Absolutely needs reworking.
I’ve had games where the ai all focus on one player until they either j out or are dead, the kill stealing is actually quite a noticeable annoyance, it’s one thing to have the kill robbed by a fellow human but the game itself doing you out of a kill you worked at is an absolute p take
Their crew skill seems to also be double that of any ace crew too for some reason when really it should be more 50% skill or something too, the amount of hits I’ve received including a couple of ammo racks from some ai destroyer 15km away whilst not sailing straight lines is infuriating and just not alright, especially when players struggle to hit from that distance
