As far as I know, the game does not include the anti-cheat in the console versions.
From my knowledge players on PC are not required to use the AC but the game might have limitations.
I wonder if somehow the console players might face any kind of penalty for not using the AC, or if not, how the check is made, server side only?
It would not make sense penalize console players deliberately as they don’t have an option to have the AC, so my question is regarding some game functionality exclusively for clients with the AC enabled that console players don’t have.
I could find much information about how it works for console.
You can disable it for PvE (like Dynamic Campaign) but you need it to run any online match.
Which is it then?
As far as I’m aware, there is no AC exclusivity for console. If you turn off Anticheat on PC, you lose access to online play altogether. There is no mode that is universally exclusive to those with anti-cheat enabled besides what console players already have access to.
From the latest release notes I see “In Air Arcade and Realistic Battles, as well as in Ground Arcade Battles, the minimum Battle Rating of vehicle lineups that require the anti-cheat to be enabled has been reduced from 11.0 to 8.0”
So this make me think that for the other modes even the online game is allowed.
I didn’t understand this question :/ which is what?
You ask if Console players face a penalty for not using AC but it isn’t included anyways, so why would there be a penalty?
Interesting.
I don’t think that console has a penalty though. There is a reason why Console WT doesn’t have anticheat, it is close to impossible to cheat on a console. You’d have to use Custom Firmware (think of Atmosphere for the Switch) and then connect to Sony/Xbox servers. It would be detected by Xbox and Sony, not the game developers. Without anticheat on PC now, you cannot play above 8.0. It was previously 11.0. Console has been playing above 11.0 since it existed, so I doubt anything has changed.
I mean, there shouldn’t be of course. However given some questionable implementations, I just wonder if some could exist. As I have never played the PC version I can’t tell “oh, this does not work on console”, besides the trading and communication part that relies on Microsoft in my case. Is more of a curiosity than a concern.
I think trading and market is the only real difference for Console and PC.
Definitely not. BattlEye is a Kernel-Level Anticheat and (unless has been changed), Microsoft and Sony do not allow for their OS to be touched by anyone outside of the developers (Closed-System). As far as I’m aware, War Thunder has only really used two anticheats (BattlEye + EasyAntiCheat), both Kernel-level. These wouldn’t function on console at all, and any software/custom firmware would be caught by Xbox/Sony anyways.
The only real anticheat on console is Anti-Xim. Pretty sure War Thunder console allows Keyboard and Mouse, no?
I don’t even think Xbox/Sony allows userspace anticheat. Nevermind the fact that the Xbox OS is a heavily modified Windows and I doubt it’d be compatible either. BattlEye/EAC would have to be modified just for Consoles.
Xim is essentially a spoofer. It allows you to use modded controllers or keyboard and mouse on console and disguise itself as a controller. This is mainly an issue in FPS games (see R6) where keyboard and mouse has a large advantage over controllers. However R6 now has Mousetrap, Valorant Console has their own Anti-Xim (not sure if its a modified Vanguard or not) and BF6 I believe has one too.
For this, people rarely modify their firmware because its more expensive than actually just getting a PC. Its different for the Switch as you can just block Nintendo Switch servers entirely and most of the Switch’s appeal is offline-play. Xbox/PS players mostly play online or need to connect to Xbox/Sony servers to do certain things, hence why its exceedingly rare and not an issue.
Yeah, does not seem technically viable to ship it with the game for consoles despite being technically possible. Better this way :) console hardware has its limitations and bloating it is bad since as you also said is difficult to install any 3rd party software on it.
