Basically just wondering if the USA ever used or developed any ERA for stopping apfsds and such for their Abrams or other types of tanks.
(Not saying I’d want it with how compressed top tier is already BUT maybe an end of the line Abrams with a good ERA kit would be neat)
have you seen the sep v2?

That’s good for Chemical energy i believe. IIrc it has like 5mm of KE protection? or maybe im thinking of another era.
i dont think any major nato country uses or has used any form of heavy ERA that can effect kinetic pernetrators in any meaning full way

Aren’t a couple of them rated for 30mm or something? @SPANISH_AVENGER you know this stuff better than I do

ARAT in the TUSK kit is a good example of this, thought it had its kinetic-energy protection reduced a lot when it leaved the DevServer which if I’m not wrong offered 200 mm or more in protection against kinetic-energy ammunition.

Western countries usually opt for internal armor schemes rather than external.

This is called composite and NERA, which both parties currently apply to their vehicles, on top of active and passive protection systems.

Unneeded comment. My post does not contradict.

they could be but i wouldnt call 30mm of kinetic protection an significant or meaningful way to effect kinetic projectiles

No I mean rated against 30mm APDS and the like

Guess on a side note, we might see Electric armour - Wikipedia in the future for the m3’s?
a lot of nato countries use ERA that its still pretty effective against kinetic for example Arat ERA, just that stuff like relikt are meant to work better at higher angles and hence the better effectiveness, i would like to have that one big doc explaining different ERA’s but i dont know how its even called i just know some details but it has pretty nice info explaining different ERA’s

us doesn’t have a good chemical era and you are asking for kinetic
Not claiming bias, but NATO nations have never gotten kinetic ERA protection for some strange reason. The French BRENUS should have 100mm of protection, I assume the US and Britain are in a similar place.

Hello, yep! For the Challenger 2, at least. I don’t know about ARAT’s values.
