The Dongfeng 102 is a day-fighting aircraft developed by China based on the MiG-19P. The front section of its fuselage was designed based on the MiG-19S prototype, while the rear section was directly copied from the MiG-19P model。

Note: This model is not the same as the J-6I previously submitted by players.
Explanation:

The Dongfeng 102 is an independently developed variant of the J-6, designated as the Type 59 by the military. Its nomenclature should therefore be DF-102, rather than a derivative within the J-6 model line.
DF-102(Dongfeng 102):This aircraft is a reverse-engineered model of the Soviet MiG-19S , developed by the Shenyang Aircraft Manufacturing Plant (112 Factory). Its design integrates characteristics of both the MiG-19P and MiG-19S, primarily based on the MiG-19S.
J-6I (Dongfeng 103) :This aircraft is an improved version of the Soviet MiG-19P, Initially developed by Institute 601, production was later transferred to the Nanchang 320 Factory。with its design focus primarily on enhancing high-altitude interception capabilities rather than directly based on the MiG-19S。

History

Spoiler

In 1958, due to the United States and other Western countries beginning to deploy the first generation of supersonic fighters, the People’s Liberation Army Air Force’s existing MiG-17/J-5 aircraft were no longer sufficient to meet combat requirements. As a result, the Air Force proposed the adoption of a successor to the MiG-17/歼-5,During the trial production of the MiG-19P, the military also expressed the need for a day-fighter (i.e., the MiG-19S). Since China had not purchased the technical drawings or placed orders for the MiG-19S with the Soviet Union, a Soviet advisor at the 112 Factory’s design department suggested that the project could be modified by removing the full radar system and only adjusting the nose section. The Second Ministry of Mechanical Industry, Bureau 4, and the 112 Factory decided to independently improve the design based on the MiG-19P, codenaming it “Dongfeng-102,” and began this work in July 1958

The front fuselage of the Dongfeng-102 was designed based on the MiG-19S prototype, while the rear section largely copied the MiG-19P. Significant changes were made to the front fuselage up to the 9th frame, including the intake duct, by removing the nose radar dome and the РП-5 radar, replacing them with a СРД-1М rangefinder and adding a 250mm intake cone. Since the MiG-19P all-weather interceptor featured only two cannons, a 30mm НР-30 cannon with 55 rounds was added to the right lower side of the nose, consistent with the MiG-19S’s design philosophy. The main structural components, such as the rear fuselage, wings, tail, and landing gear, were derived from the MiG-19P. The vertical tail incorporated a WJ-2 guarder, and the rocket launcher, originally located at the trailing edge of the wing, was relocated to the leading edge with the addition of a pair of rocket pylon brackets, enabling the aircraft to carry 4 groups of 32 С-5 aerial rockets or 2 bombs .

In December 1958, the 112 Factory began production of the 0th batch of 11 Dongfeng-102 aircraft. In February 1959, the aircraft entered trial production, and by September, the prototype assembly was completed. Due to the similar appearance of the aircraft to the MiG-19P all-weather interceptor and the unchanged primary load-bearing components, the Dongfeng-102 did not undergo full static stress testing. Instead, only supplementary tests were conducted on the relocated rocket launcher beam . During the “Great Leap Forward” period, numerous quality issues emerged after delivery to the military, failing to meet tactical and technical requirements. The aircraft was overweight, with its structural strength only reaching 86% of the design specifications, leading to production being halted after 36 units were built 。Currently, only 2-3 units are left in China.
