[Development] Chieftain 900: Royal Ordnance’s Chieftain

No it doesn’t mate what ? The mk3 is essentially the mk5 but a bit slower.

The fundamentals of its capabilities are nearly the same.

No , at all no the mk3 should stay 8.7 and the mk5 should get the correct l15a5 with improved performance as well as the LRF which would see it be 9.0.

Finally! Someone with an actual source whos been talking about it for ages.

I did read it, but I interpreted that part as them changing the layout so a LRF could be installed, just like the Mk.3/3 had provisions for the TLS LF2.
The Chieftains that actually were equipped with the LRF would have the /L designation and I couldn’t find any mentions of a Mk.5/L existing online.

It’s getting another nerf.

Yep, can’t have roof armour anymore sadly

I don’t even understand why.

And the speed makes a big difference

And be 0.3 below the Khalid that has like 450hp more, much better gun handling and APFSDS?

i disagree with the dart but the BR placements yes.

100% agree

it would still suck imo. not a fan of the rooikat platform

Why? The APDS is really bad and can’t do any meaningful damage to a 279 that is just 0.3 higher.

Th Mk1D is really nice to drive and the lower weight compared to the MTTD and ZA-35 make the acceleration a lot better.

dare i say its undertiered?

I feel like the Mk1D could be pretty good with buffed APFSDS, but 9.0 seems like an awkward BR for a lineup imo

But on the other side, we already have another light tank at 8.7 that feels a lot better to play than the current Mk1D, so having the Mk1D at 9.0 wouldn’t be a loss for the 8.7 lineup AND would add something that might be better than the Vickers Mk 11 for a 9.0 lineup

Of course it is but that’s the reality the Chieftains have to deal with.

yea but thats not a fault of the chieftains.

A tanks performance depends entirely on its environment and if said environment is being dominated by the 279 it needs a way to deal with it. Mobility is a joke compared to the Object so outmaneuvering/flanking is out of the question and the only solution is better ammunition.

Why?

8.3, 8.7 and 9.3 have a sizeable lineup so why not 9.0? The Mk10, 900 and Mk1D would be a perfect fit to bridge to gap. You could still use some 8.3 and 8.7 in the 9.0 lineup too but because of constant 10.3 uptiers they can’t be used at 9.3.

I’m not saying that 9.0 can’t have a lineup, I’m saying that 9.0 seems a bit awkward in terms of vehicles.

While yes, 9.3 gets uptiered to 10.3, I don’t have an issue with that. It’s only 4 players that get to use 10.3 vehicles and more often than not those players are ypur average premium pack players.

When I really don’t want to get uptiered to 10.3 I just use an 8.7 lineup instead.

This is just how I feel about the possible 9.0 lineup, others can still enjoy it.
But when I look at the Chief Mk.10 and the possibility of a 9.0 Rooikat, I feel like I might as well go 9.3 for the Olifant Mk.2 and the MTTD, which (again) I prefer, despite being uptiered to 10.3

I recently used the Rooikat 1D and found it mediocre. Its mobility is good, but it is large and does not have enough armor to protect it from 20mm APs from the front, and its APDS-FS ammunition has extremely little damage and is even random, causing you to sometimes only kill one crew member, so the ambush attack ends up in your own death, since any shot will kill you.
I’m finishing the Chieftain Mk10, it’s not a bad tank, but the L231 is a bit short when you find the T-64A and T-72A, while if you find a T-64B or T-72M1 that bullet is no longer useful. In my opinion the Chieftain Mk10 would need the L23A1 to be a good tank in Br9.0

And in theory the entire enemy team could be in a Sabra, Leo 2 or Rad 90. With 9.0 you will only have 4 of these problematic tanks and 0 10.3s.

If that’s your choice I’m totally fine with that however I still disagree and would have a 9.0 lineup.

Even without the L23a1 is it an exellent 9.0 when you actually compare it with other 9.0s.

It’s still better than the Vickers Mk11 that dies to .50 cals.

Yes that’s the problem. It does as much damage as the HSTVL or 2S38 but instead of being an autocannon is has a normal reload time.

I never had an issue with L23 at 9.0 to be honest. It’s fine for weakspots and only starts to suck at 10.0+.

I’d say excellent is an exaggeration. It’s perfectly balanced compared to the M60 TTS, XM803, TAM, T-62M1 and most of the other (non overtiered) 9.0s.
