Data Analysis #3: The arrival of Statshark answers some old questions

This cause they take a month break from events in June - July as they did year before. Missing one naval event after t34-85 and then bringing two of them, naval still got less events in the year than tanks and planes, which is not helping to promote naval modes. So there will be no more naval events till new year holidays, what will lead to another playerdrop in naval modes for 3 month in a row, if nothing significant will be added in next two major patches, and looks like it will not be anything, except one ambiguous damage control thing(which could lead to even more player disappointment in mode, due to decreased TTK).

sad to see how little Air matters now.

There were no claims that aiming changes will bring a lot of players(hopes probably, not assurance), there were claims that the they will not drive them out, in oppose to some boatlovers insists. “Leviathans” defiantly attracted big chunk of of some old and some new players, NRB is doubled in numbers and NAB was close to doubling. NAB showed longer retention of the players after that update, when NRB lost big chunk of it playerbase just month after and even more next month.

For sure events is what attract people to naval modes(But i could say that not only events themselves, but absents of events for other type of vehicle, so players could choose what they want to play and relax a bit, trying something new, i stay with my opinion, that old events system was better and new one is what caused part of stagnation in playerbase growth and brings those swing disproportions in the different modes, as i myself is tired out of those constant events, which never almost happened with old system).

I think this is possible, though personally I hated the old event system. “Event Thunder” basically became a different game experience altogether. Now completing ground events for example is much more relaxed, especially if you play between say 6.7 and 7.7, since I feel like a lot of people doing the event tend to focus below or above that range.

Now playing events is almost indistinguishable from playing the game regularly. I like that, but it may also be why it’s not the magnet for returning players that it was before. Not sure.

I will say that another factor may be the constant watering down of the battle pass. I feel much less incentive than I used to to complete the challenges, dailies, and specials.

Don’t forget that acquiring the coupons for sale, now twice and sometimes trice harder than with previous system in terms of time invested, if you not using optimal OP setups or vehicles.

It’s harder to estimate that effect. Remember that the reason why they did that is that enough coupons were around that players were disincentivised to grind the event so long as they could spend 10 bucks on the market as soon as the coupons went on sale. Now if you really badly want an event vehicle you have an extra incentive to grind it just to be sure. Though granted plenty of event vehicles have stayed at low prices anyway.

It’s not a straightforward picture.

They already have their mechanism of lowering prices if needed - lootboxes. I don’t think there is less coupons now, just cause it’s harder to get, probably even more just cause there is no competition for attention between different vehicles and modes during event(when previously you could get 3 vehicles for sail or on account if you good enough, now you just get one), i personally stopped grind any vehicles now just cause it’s too much effort, even just to get it to account, 20 days in the same mode for a clone - hell no.

I mean, yes, you’re right? F-14 IRIAF was provably more interesting to players last year than the F-106 was this year and that definitely made a difference. That event was also between two naval events but it basically kept, it now seems clear, 2024 being their worst summer for audience retention so far instead of 2025.

But that also points to a possible problem in the model. The old model between four major events had 16-17 new vehicles a year (not counting BP) through the events. Some of those were pretty boring too, but maybe if you group them in fours, at least something is interesting in there 4 times a year? This year with Dreams Come True, plus one more event after that and Christmas, we’ll have had 17, but if they can’t ALL be interesting vehicles it can make these very long gaps, especially for players that don’t play all modes.

And yes, the July break has something to do with it, but they’ve filled that break before, in 2023 with Atomic Heart or 2020 with World War Mode. Add that to no general player bump at all from either of the last two major updates and you get the numbers we’re seeing here.

Spoiler

The best comparison I think is the last graph. In 2023 and 2025 the game started May in basically the same place, with 57,700 average users on Steam. Over summer both declined. But in 2023 (the last summer with an actual summer event) they only lost 4,700 players by end Sept. In 2025 that loss number was 10,200.

I think it’s basically guaranteed then that the event format will be revisited. While the drop is not really going to affect anything right now since the absolute numbers are still enormous, they’re going to be surely concerned about that and will want to reverse it.

Perhaps they’re waiting to see how Nov/Dec goes.

Exactly my view - gaijin failed to balance their interest (gaining more traffic with less and less benefit for players) with the general player expectations (getting unique vehicles). The c+p spamming in the last years is just a joke.

And even if you were not interested in BP vehicles - the war bond shop offered premium vehicles for free, so there was at least an “indirect” incentive to progress in order to unlock shop levels.

As a pure Air RB player i enjoyed to fulfill tasks tailored for ground RB (kill x amount of players with a bomb of x kg weight) by bombing landing or landed enemies on their runway in Air RB as in the last years as some of them were real challenges. This round i just refused to try it as it was not worth the effort.

Imho the data provided in the latest slides just confirm the perceptions of a lot of players - wt became during covid more and more a tank game which uses aircraft primarily as support/balancer/road block to slow down progress in the research of ground vehicles.

Every new aircraft outside missile slinging BRs is evaluated by the majority of the players based on just 2 parameters:

  1. How many bases can i kill - or
  2. How many more or less helpless guys on the ground can be killed

So it is no wonder why you meet just a few pure pilots in your matches. I expect (seriously) sooner or later a BP P-51 C-10 for Germany, it looks like gaijin has missed that they captured one 😂

In time when competitor doing the opposite thing bringing more and more investments into player attraction and retention, despite all that political shenanigans that they run into over the year, so now they competing against separated clones of same game and with WT.

Happens quite frequently! 😁

Statshark is making up things. Apparently i played mode i havent touched in years. And it says today i had total 168 ground arcade matches played, meanwhile two days ago it thought i had 177.

That part of the data is based on the data Gaijin keeps for you on public global leaderboards (it used to be on the old service record, bottom right as well, but it’s hidden now). There’s a known bug with removing old performance stats there. Statshark just scrapes what Gaijin says about you in the leaderboard and accepts it.

That’s a completely different separate source from the company global data that Pluspy obtained for them that this thread was based on.

@Bruce_R1 I saw that StatShark has relisted/restarted their live match view tool. Have they also refreshed/made available again the data that was used to make the charts/graphs you have posted in your thread here?

No, in fact they took all the old data down that this article and others were based on, that Pluspy got for them. It’s just the aggregated service-record stuff for the vehicles now. Makes the vehicle winrate data rather less useful than it was, sadly.

Too bad, thank you for the update. Cheers.

Where can I find the up to date uptier rates per br charts?

Sadly we lost that ability when Statshark lost access to the additional data Pluspy had been giving them, so those will remain snapshots.

That’s really sad, guess I’ll have to make stats myself
