I would also like the missile diamond removed from the smokeless missiles…
What an advantage it is when you see a diamond while it burns in most cases the missile is visible for the whole flight.
Ah I didnt realise it was in service yet, based on what I can find it only improved the gimble limit of the seeker?
There are no mentions of improved IRCCM or improved TVC for the missile?
i would guess that they imrpoved the seeker/ irccm in someway compared to the initial design from the 80’s
the change only affects pre-flaring lets not forget that
and the 27et is barely if ever pre-flared because most of the time it gets launched from far enough away so you dont notice it being shot at you
We’ll have to see by how much, given that pre-flaring is the main defence against short range r73/magic II, if pre-flaring is no longer effective that Is a major buff
sure but it wouldnt really change anything for the r27et as it is mostly fired in conditions where the enemy isnt aware
Oh yeah, that should be largely unaffected. Unless it now becomes a powerhouse short range weapon with this change given its speed
And R-27T/ET doesn’t have as tight of a gatewidth as other missiles … (1.33 deg vs 0.75)
like i said it wont change anything for the ET
Unless the engine of AIM-9M is severly lacking in game it has nowhere near the effective range of an ET.
Even the bas T variant should be superior.
The size of the motor would tell you that…R-27s are huge
IRL 9M has a head on range of 18km)…
In game you cannot lock more than 3km away.
Thats the issue here
You can perhaps lock on at that range.
The kinematic performance is a different matter.
A slightly improved seeker performance on R-73, R-27T/ET as well as Magic 2 does not equate to the same capability as ASRAAM.
Iam pretty sure that a 9m has enough energy to hit a target further out than 3km in a head-on
He was mentioning 18 Km lock ranges.
It is not inefficient per say the missile simply wont be fooled as easily.
I disagree high up if they dont see it no reason it couldnt potentially glide and hit a target further away then it can currently can.
Having that flexibility would make the 9M better and with the improvements thrown out for all other missiles it wouldnt break the game.
My undertanding is currently you have a short window to flare a R-73/Magic 2 before the seekers occular closes the FOV and focuses purely on your engine.
If it is focusing straight off the rail the only way to defeat it is through angling your airframe so your flares intersect the FOV of the missile which is risky and harder to do when you are already defending. With ranges and flights times (people generally dont launch R-73 or Magic 2s from more than 2.5km) They are going to be significantly more lethal than what we currently have in game.
in a headon?
because that seems a bit far in any other aspect
in a rear-aspect shot i dont go further out than 1.5km, if the target is running away, to make sure the missile hits
Side profile a Magic 2 from that range is pretty dangerous although I must say I have only used them on the 2000 C4 and not against the 14.0s
