Dassault Rafale - Variants, Characteristics, Armament and Performance

Is 50km thr maximum travel distance or maximum launch range?

Max range in game is maximum range for any missile.

That’s why the R-77 is advertized as 80km and doesn’t reach more than 60km in game.

Because the 80km is for a launch from 12km to a target flying under 2000m

And thus, MICA-EM should be allowed to reach max of 80km, and still works as it should today,… the fact that Missile isn’t allowed to go past the 50km make it explode automatically at 50.6km

in theory but in modern systems the false alarm rate is low

Travel distance, MICA self-exploded after 50.6 km, even if only 50 seconds have passed (with 70 seconds battery life)

Depends who you ask I guess.

Are we gonna ask eurofighter or a keyboard general
this also applies to rafale

travel distance

It has a 70s battery life, which means it will explode before reaching that range at low altitude. It is also range limited in game, which means a self axploding mechanism is triggered once it reaches 50km, even if the battery is still alive (only possible at very high altitudes)

That makes a lot more sense now.

What you are saying is…

The misisle will self destruct after 70 seconds or 50km travel distance from the launch point.
Whichever is sooner.

The latter is very dumb indeed as there absolutely can be situations where the missile retains enough kinematic energy at high altitudes, and has absolutely nothing stopping it, but just explodes 50km from the launch point for no reason.

While it may be theoretically possible to hit a target from 80km if it is traveling at mach 2.25 at 12,000m, as the target will travel >30km in 50 seconds, not allowing the missile to make full use of the battery is an ignorant decision.

Pilots have said this. I can of course not validate such statements.

exactly

Regarding the travel distance, the taiwanese managed to make one travel 67km. We have no idea what kind it was (IR or EM) though, but the target was a drone. While it isn’t a very hard target to hit, it means the missile should at least travel 67km.

Don’t get me wrong though, the Rafale isn’t in a bad spot right now, the buff can wait a bit imo

I saw people talk about MAWS systems earlier and just for you guys information
Radar maw and ir maw usually work together because of sensor fusion
Both system exchanges information in order to help the pilot defend against the threat
The MAWS system on the rafale especially is extremely advanced compared to its competitors
The full SPECTRA integrated electronic warfare suite provides long-range detection, identification and accurate localisation of infrared homing, radio frequency and laser threats. The system incorporates radar warning, laser warning and missile approach warning for threat detection plus a phased array radar jammer and a decoy dispenser for threat countering. (Wikipedia)

British documents for British airframes often are.
Rafale is not British or in British service

So we have a new response to a report made regarding the Rafale’s medium speed acceleration. The devs have found that using sources for the Rafale B which is slightly heavier than the Rafale C, they found the acceleration of the Rafale in the sources to be very close to what is in-game, so no improvement will be needed. But it is a win as it assures the devs that this part of the flight model is accurate and attempts to nerf it will be unsuccessful as devs have already now seen sources proving the Rafale’s medium speed acceleration to be correct.

I guess the drag reduction of the Rafale is not so crazy.

This helps ensure that future reports to nerf its acceleration remain unsuccessful, reports such as these:

British wave is upon us with this announcement.

Not really, Given that so far, little to no bug reports have been submitted against the Rafale from the “british” community, but dozens of attempts have been made to nerf the Typhoon even though its been acknowledged by the devs (iirc) the Typhoons FM is likely underperforming (but might be within their margin of error)

(that Piiot guy has submitted about 15 failed bug reports to nerf the Typhoon and just attempted to argue the Typhoons FM is overperforming using footage from an airshow)

And yet the French community continues to try and nerf the Typhoon further. Despite its rather abysmal state accross the board currently (like the near useless radar and dozens of missing features that are present on the Rafale)

What are those “dozen features” tho ? The main complain I see people have agains the rafale (from EFT mains) are :

  • radar, not a missing feature since the one is mechanical, the other AESA. It’s true however that it’s far worse
  • The flight model, although mostly correct for the rafale, the only issue some have are the G limitation, but not really a “feature”, more of a performance gap, be it realistic art not
  • The FnF missiles, although it’ll be hard for gaijin to justify mm wave FnF missiles

I would even say the Rafale is “missing” features over the EFT, such as the proximity capability of the MAW thank’s to it’s PD

the Rafale maw is IR/UV

IR, and I know. If you read correctly, you would see that I put “” around the missing, and then I mention that it’s achieved thanks to the PD MAW of the EFT, implying that it is not something the rafale should have in game, which it doesn’t

the sentence you used wasnt really nice to read, i mean look at this and tell me it is coherent:

this would be easier to read imo:

Well, you have Priority track for example which would give it an AESA like quality, the recommended implementation at this time is C&Ping the recent AESA code over to the CAPTOR-M. and thats not including the PIRATE TWS overlay which would allow the IRST TWS to track 200 targets at the same time as the radar is maintaing track on 20 targets

But the Rafale skipped its PESA radar, so perhaps the Typhoon should skip to the CAPTOR-E. Just add the earlier variant of the Typhoon with CAPTOR-M in the future when it can actually be modeled in game.

The radar overall is on par with that found in the Su-27 in game, and its a joke its so bad. Iirc, the CAPTOR-M was considered superior to the PESA radar originally found on the Rafale.

Other features include things like the HMD IFF, FnF A2G weapons, missing MFD features, etc. Maybe dozens was me being hyperbolic, but there are more that im forgetting. The point is the Typhoon is without a doubt underperforming at this time and its annoying that every other update seems to add a new feature or buff to the Rafale and all we got last major update was more nerfs
