Dassault Rafale - Variants, Characteristics, Armament and Performance

Yep, Eurofighter is more geared for supersonic, high altitude performance more than anything.

When we look at some graphs comparing the Typhoon and Rafale from 2011, the Rafale won in all characteristics.

On an unrelated note
Gripen though, yikes.

It’s understandable since the Gripen is much cheaper.

I know this and doesn’t represent whole truth about Gripen tho.

Yeah, it makes the Gripen look completely horrible.
I don’t believe this is the case.

Gripen’s much more of a home defence platform with rapid turn arounds on sorties.

So of course, that tends to make it look a lot worse when anything even vaguely considers endurance or payload. As a home defence platform, Gripen’s an exceptional platform. But it won’t be loitering for very long with a full payload. Except the E. They made the E fat.

Yeah it’s 5 years older than the rafale and it’s much more cheaper that’s why Switzerland choose the gripen

They did make it much fatter.
I don’t think the new engine makes up for the weight entirely, it might even have an inferior thrust-to-weight compared to C.

But anyways, this is the Rafale forum, so I will not derail this further.

E has a better thrust to weight, >1. E is a very good platform, comparable to Rafale in agility but with a bit smaller carried payload capacity from memory, and lower range.

Won’t derail further, but also won’t let you be mean to the chonk gripen 😿

It has better T/W ratio compare to C model.

New engine provides 1+ T/W in any load out.

The Gripen is a light single engine fighter, obviously it wasn’t gonna hold up against the EFT or Rafale except in cost really

Actually it does, especially NG and E model, but this is Rafale thread so let’s not derail it anymore.

Ok, that’s good. Because I was getting a bit worried there.

Just so you know, I like the Gripen a lot :p
It’s Gripen > EFT > Rafale for me in terms of the Eurocanards.
I don’t dislike the Rafale at all, the Eurocanards in general set a high bar, and I have difficulty choosing lol.

i mean clearly the Typhoon is better on paper and in practice

Both Rafale and Gripen equal favourite, depends on the day as to which I favour most so decided I like them the same.

PIRATE is the IRST system right?
The thing that serves no purpose in WT currently other than being a gimmick, especially in the post-HMD era; however that’s not an opinion relating on whether Typhoon should get it or not.
If Tranche 2 equipped it IRL, sure it should get it; otherwise I’m not losing sleep over a feature most players won’t use.

And yes, I’m not against prototype systems losing IRST, cause coincidentally the things with IRST either don’t have uncaged weapons or have HMD/S systems.

So will the Rafale lose the HMD on the live server?
I would be disappointed if that happens.

It would be incredibly annoying, given the thing was trialed with it but logistics. If they want to remove it, then they really should remove it from the F15s, F16s, etc.

Rafale>Gripen>EFT for me i Like the rafale the more and consider it the best both in look and capabilites, then the gripen
because i like it concept of a lightweight cheap home defence fighter and i find it look cool, then last the EFT mainly because i find it ugly, very capable air superiority fighter but lacks in other department.

No. No one has supplied sources that Rafale F3R can’t use HMD.
Partially cause HMD was at least tested with the previous version of Rafale.
