Dassault Rafale - Variants, Characteristics, Armament and Performance - Part 2

Stratus RS seems to be the one receiving liquid ramjet and looks like is the cause of the delay.

apparently one journalist asked about Comet during the same event, and MBDA answered along the lines of “enlarged / boosted MICA” so the rascale program theory in fact doesn’t hold

What does this “boosted” part mean?

quite honestly i don’t know

Could be a MICA NG strapped to a booster, could be an elongated MICA NG (3 pulse ?)

It’s not going to be based on Aster booster (too large for aircraft, and the booster is loosely attached to the dart on this missile). MBDA confirmed Aster is a big no-go

If we go the enlarged route, it would just be a “bigger MICA” so it would look similar to a S530D, maybe thinner, less wing span, and most likely with dual / triple pulse

…that is not all of it, right

Counter argument, France should use their tri rack for MICA

Lmaooooooo how did you do that? I just recently meme’d some loadout from Ask3lad mission editor.

Not from me, but from a friend. You can apparently have a lot of fun editing stuff in test flight if you know what you are doing

Yeah, unfortunately just rely on some 3rd party program, but either way that’s cool lol. How insanely draggy carrying more than 12 missiles. It’s basically becoming a flying SAM rather than fighter jet now.

This looks vaguely reasonable and that concerns me.

There’s speculation that the new munition type confirmed to be coming by BVVD possibly could be cluster munition, so here’s pictures of the Rafale with 2 Apache missiles under its wings from a Dassault book:

Theoretically nothing prevents it from being put under centerline pylon like the SCALP-EG since it is very very similar to that, but I haven’t found any pictures of it under the centerline pylon.

Weapon has cluster munitions, is stealth similar to the SCALP, has same turbojet engine as SCALP, 100km+ range, uses millimetre radar.

Have not seen this. Who is doing the speculating?

If correct though, would be nice to see BAP and Belouga.

The usual speculators in next-update rumor threads, discords, YouTube. Smin has confirmed that the new weapon type wasn’t going to be next gen IR missiles, so there’s that.

Spoiler

It would be odd to see clusters based on only this, especially in the current server situation. Would be cool tho.

Especially with how poorly depicted Tochka’s warhead was in NE.

Yeah I have little hope for cluster munitions but my limited imagination can’t think of much else.

2027-2029 work (and flight of demonstrator ?) and 2030+ work on production NGF to enter service in french air force in 2035.

To be precise :

2027-2029 is prototype phase. 2029 onwards is the development of the final form. No actual dates for a flying prototype tho.
I don’t see 2035 for entry of service but a target of 2040.
Either way, 2035 seems highly optimistic since Dassault Aviation said that they could have a proto flying by 2032 just after the end of the franco-german cooperation

With everything going faster to the old timeline, and with even Trappier saying that it would happen much sooner than what he just said, such date would make sense.

Well they say in your screenshot, that 2027-2029 is the period it will fly lol.

And remember phase 1 for the proto got completed with it being planned to fly in 2027 previously (and even sooner ?), it was following France design (not like it was not following German and spanish choice too but those are idiots that change just before the end).

Otherwise as far as i understood 2040 would be FOC, IOC could happen in 2035 which was what Trappier said previously for it to be in the air force (or another official).

my understanding is, prototype will fly in 2029 at the latest date

Then development to a proper fight worthy airframe will take up to 2040

just like Rafale A flew in the 80s but the aircraft started being combat worthy in the 00s
