guess ill find my bindle :(
To me, the circle argumentation that has been happening in this discussion can be summed up pretty easily.
There are two major arguments made:
1: Adding the RoC flag would be political because it goes against the diplomatic stance of the PRC
2: Adding the RoC flag would allow individuals opposed to the PRC to express their opinions within this game
Both arguments rest on Gaijin’s statement that it as a company and War Thunder as a game are non-political.
However, in the case of argument 1 it can be said that this in and of itself is a political statement, because not everyone follows/accepts the diplomatic stance of the PRC. This is very much being done so in this discussion and is likely the main reason it’s gotten so heated.
And argument 2 would cause a double-standard because such an argument would not only affect the Chinese situation, and we should not promote Gaijin do more double-standards, and hence leaving the only options to either add the national flag of the RoC, or remove this feature entirely.
Adding on to this, people who would want to oppose the PRC by using the national flag of the RoC can already do so because it is already in the game as a decal, which can actually be seen by other people in the game, as opposed to the client-only national flag feature. There is nothing stopping players from putting the RoC decal onto PRC equipment already.
this thread is crazy
im just gonna voice my stands and knowledge on this
the topic of “Taiwan” or commonly known by the Chinese player base as ROC(Republic of China) is controversial
International users across the globe usually agree that Taiwan is a country, while most CN users disagree and state that Taiwan is a part of China and not a country(include my chinese friends, which also believe that Taiwan isnt a country-but hes unsure of it since he now lives in Canada and his opinion fluctuate)
Now for the government side, no government would officially state that Taiwan is a country due to “politics things” and if they do so it would just make relationship between them and China go bad, so you would not see any government officially say it
Now personally, i dont wanna get slimed by mods for politics so
Just add the ROC flag, if the CN players(which from reading this thread) goes “its just a game”, then they would have no issue with ROC flag being put into the game
I feel like a big one is also the ROC from 1928-1949 used this flag, why can’t players use their WW2-Era Chinese National Flag when all other WW2 National Flags are available?
this is “The Flag Problem” but its in WT instead of a nation issue on making the flag that represent them(Canada for example had the flag problem and change from the Red Ensign to the Maple Leaf)
That is a potential solution to this argument, and one I personally support.
However it is contentious still because some would like it to be known specifically as the 1928-1949 flag instead of a general representational flag, and hence this has not yet become the status quo solution
Actually, we’re still using this flag, it’s just that we no longer control the territory in China. It’s a bit complicated.
Recognizing or not recognizing a country is political so thus your argument is invalid if we go by Gaijins official stance of no politics
That’s incorrect, is the German WW2 national flag available? Or the vichy France, etc?
But the point is not that, it’s that ROC was at some point internationally recognized as legitimate nation of China. This timeframe is part of the game, so the flag should be. This way it is up to the player to customize and whether they want to have the ROC or PRC tech tree. Why they decide this is not relevant because it is not part of the game.
I want to have a Vietnamese techtree for example, so I will select Vietnam. Do I want to make Vietnamese lineups? Do I just like the flag? Do I think Vietnam is the legitimate government of China? Or maybe some other reason?
Doesn’t matter because no other player will ever be affected by the decision.
I don’t think it needs to be honestly. Its not explicitly Taiwanese and its not explicitly Pre-1949, so you can’t really make an argument on that honestly.
There are no vichy french tech in game
If recognizing or not recognizing a country is political, then your argument is as invalid as mine, and the status quo is taken to be correct.
I hate everyone equally so they can call me whatever they want lol
The RoC is not recognized as a nation by the PRC, and legally also not by a majority of nations on earth. However, it is recognized by itself, 12 other nations, and informally by a majority of nations on earth.
Stop using this argument it is not the same and the WW2 german flag is seen as a hate symbol, this would work if this was about the now removed Rhodesian flag (was on the Hunter FGA.9 on release).
1st
not recognize by who
by
International
or by
China
A stylised version of it is.
That one isn’t but it should be, as should the flag of the free french forces.
I don’t want to argue with you about this. Otherwise, the examples I bring up will just get hidden again.
Whatever you like, I don’t care.
Wait that got removed? Why not just use the southern Rhodesia flag instead of the independent Rhodesian flag or something as that would still be more correct without the controversy
