Custom Battle Rating for Aircraft: More Freedom For Your Vehicles!

Elaborate where I am nitpicking? Also I am referring to all ranks, not just the very top.

If they bring the feature to ground, being able to downtier a Tiger II P or an IS-2 (for example since they are around the most played BR range), to below 6.0, is gonna wreck balance. Even if you uninstall a bunch mods outside of the strict necessary like FPE, Parts and Crew Replacement, a Tiger II P and an IS-2, is still gonna be significantly better than something like a Comet, or an uptiered T14 or T-34-57, even more so on maps with long LoS that benefit the KT and IS2.

If there wasn’t such drastic performance differences between vehicles, BRs wouldn’t be a thing and you’d have just Rank based MM, which in itself is really shoddy due to how basic and inaccurate it is compared to individual BRs within Ranks.

And regarding your example (which is more nitpicky because it’s a what about focusing on top tier alone), you can strip an F-15E of it’s fire and forget armament, strip it down to just the Vulcan and make it fight 11.0s+ that have smart armament, it still is an F-15E that is gonna mop the floor with a MiG-23 on performance and defensive capability alone.
Same with stripping a MiG-23, still gonna outperform something like a T-2.
Or an F-106 at 9.3 which is already extremely good, going lower to more reliably fight 8.3. A Sabre A-5 to fight Me 262s and so on, really. The props are the ones with the least major gap of performance between BRs and Rank, until you get to early 109Bs fighting slow biplanes.

War Thunder is 1.0 to 15.0. That is a much larger gap that you have to account for than just Rank 8 and 9, and as Gaijin said, if they expand this system to Ground, then maybe ships, helicopters, boats and whatever else they’ll add, now you have to rebalance game from scratch to avoid having vehicles that are gonna overperform or underperform, in an easily abusive system.

This is what I mean by this being a Pandora’s box situation.

Gaijin could easily balance OP vehicles with the current system. They don’t because they don’t believe such BR changes are what is necessary.

Now imagine if there were 10x as many OP vehicles for Gaijin to balance. The balancing team will overwhelmed byan order of magnitude more than they already are.

I hope I’m proven wrong, but this will almost certainly be a disaster for balancing.

And it’ll be even harder for the community to give feedback, to be heard over the shouting of “Gaijin add this missile and lower this BR of this load out”

Hahahaha… right

So this is removing the option of having no missiles or attack weaponry at all? Im sorry but this doesn’t make sense game wise, to me at least.

Are you now being required to take some weaponry into battle to establish a baseline BR?

Like…lets say an 12.7 F/A-18 has to take 9Ls and 7Ms and only when it takes 7Ps does it go up? How far does it go up? How does the 1.0 uptier/down tier affect this?

How much of a BR increase does a 120B give over a 120A? Or a 120C?

This is being done by preset, not by loadout.

Even if you bring only a gun, you go to the lowest preset available where there is going to be other weaponry available anyway, so this entire argument doesn’t really make sense.

If it was dynamic BR change based strictly on ordinance i’d understand but these are set presets

I’m curious what you could possibly think is a necessarily OP aircraft that cannot be balanced without loadout BRs. And how you think loadout BRs will somehow fix that.

So can I research Rank 9 with Mig Bison if I put missiles that will increase its BR?

If I make sure to take only a 12.7 aircraft and appropriate weaponry into battle because using its better missile would put it at 13.3 or 13.7, and Im still put into a 13.7 match, why shouldnt I have just taken that weaponry in the first place? Because it would have taken my 12.7 air frame into a 14.7 battle (the 13.7 weaponry + the 1.0 BR uptier/downtier)?

This seems really over complicated for no real tangible benefit.

Finally! This is it!

A lifeline for the F-104G/S, Kfir Canard, A-5C, SU-22 etc.

historically accurate matchmaking!!1!1!

Yeah, it could now.

Peak

It really won’t and here’s why.
It will actually cause further compression on lower BR’s. F-106 as one example, wrecking carnage on stuff like MiG-15s, CLs, Sabres, F9Fs. Now you caused an even bigger issue of jets that already overperformed in downtiers, to more reliable just queueing for the BRs they can overperform in.

You have achieved nothing for compression, you just managed to make it even more broad instead. Which comes to the detriment of players who try to reach higher tiers. This change won’t affect much the people that play exclusively top, but everyone below trying to grind upwards, is gonna get slowed down, and you’re just causing a larger cascading effect, worsening the compression issue.

If that’s the case, I will admit, I’m less excited about this change than most people. I think it’ll be beneficial if there was a way we can easily tell what the max BR would be in the tech tree.

I rely a lot on the BRs to make decisions on what vehicles to research/get. For example, I decided against buying the ZTZ96B cause I figured it won’t have a good line-up after moving it to 12.0.

that’s kinda what I fear since there’s gonna planes that have an optimal BR that’s not slap the best weapons on it. Personally, I don’t have that much time to figure that out, so I’m gonna end up slapping the highest available weapons and have a miserable time in it.

Don’t get me wrong, I still love this feature since spading higher tier helis have been a pain.

and especially every Typhoons too (why tf I need to research the same thing again only with diff radar and some other new weapons)

Not really interested in mid tier air rb implications, as they are angling this as a CAS oriented change to begin with, and CAS is one of the largest points of complaint within the community, so balancing it by spreading armament across multiple Brs is hugely beneficial for ground players, who are still a majority of the playerbase

Perhaps a CM explain this better?

This is what has me confused with this change:

I pick a 12.7 aircraft. I take only the weaponry that keeps me at a 12.7 BR.

I go into match and there are 13.7 aircraft on my team, meaning the enemy also has 13.7 aircraft.

If had I choosen Weapon B or over the Weapon A that I took in order to stay at 12.7, I would have been at 13.3 or 13.7.

But if I had taken Weapons B which put me at 13.3 or 13.7, and got the same uptier, are we really wanting what was originally a 12.7 airframe to fight 14.3 or 14.7 aircraft?

Or is there a “ceiling” of sorts?

Maybe I can play some of the cooler 12.0 planes but only equip AIM7E-2 so I don’t have to fight the extremely long range missiles, this will be fun if so

I look forward to it, but at the same time gaijin keeps butchering stuff.

Like the advance game mode, Nuclear mode, blatantly busted vehicles, poor br choices… idk I am hopeful and scared at the same time.
