Crew locks are obsolete for ARB

So our dear friend “crew lock”, supposed to help combat players who “leave” early.

For ARB it was kept to avoid “kill denial”, the act of crashing on purpose when cornered by the enemy as a last act of pettines via denying not only the credit but the rewards of SL and RP for said kill.

This was made very sketchy to pull off now thankfully, since now if one crashes the kill will be rewarded to the closest enemy within 3km, sure thw reward is a little bit less BUT the reward is there and the credit is there.

Only real somewhat purpose is counter “rammers”, the people who will ram you on takeoff for “fun”, but even then the issues start.

Because crewlocks will still punish you for all the previous cases and more.

For example crashes can also happen via Packet Loss, and the crewlock system will still punish, before it could be justified by “well we can’t remove crewlocks, because it has a purpose”.

But the purpose doesn’t exist now, If I die in a manouver kill, for example I accidentaly eat a tree, im still punished for it, despite the fact the opponent recieved the rewards and died fairly by my mistake.

Yet I receive a crewlock?

Im rammed at the start of match, sure the little rascal will recieve a crewlock BUT I EAT ONE TOO, and trying to estimate “who’s at fault?” is really hard to code.

AND I and You will still recieve a crewlock due to Packet loss, despite the fact it is completely outside your control what happens during a internet implosion.

So does the crew lock system still do more good than harm? Or is it time to retire it for ARB?

Should crewlocks be removed for ARB?

That… is not a yes or no question. But yeah CLs are a pain, they’re a relic of a forgotten era so to speak. Imo its time for them to be left behind.

What does “yes” in the poll mean in this sense?

to remove it from ARB

Another player receiving a reward for your face plant isn’t any kind of punishment for you unless you are THAT petty of a person.

Wouldn’t this mean that I could reroll matches without even spawning in my favourite plane until I get a downtier or a map I’m willingto play?

It also prevents people just quitting if they get an MM or map they don’t like. Imagine it. “Oh it’s a full uptiers, I’ll just quit and re-queue”

The game just needs to get better at detecting when crashes occur to connection issues

Getting crew locked for when you hit the ground and enemy gets the credit makes no sense.
He basically killed you so there should not be crew lock for your death (hitting the ground)

Crew locks are still applicable for denying “match re-rolling” where you intentionally leave a match if it’s a bad map or br, reducing the effectiveness of your team, and making the gameplay worse for everyone else who doesn’t do that.

While yes, some matches are extremely unfun to play, focus should be on demanding improvements to those bad matches rather than encouraging a playstyle that makes the game even more unfun for everyone else.
(also yes, the full repair cost would burn through SL very quickly at higher brs, but if people can blow millions on their gambling addictions then they could also afford the repair costs)

Yeah, like the bit where the game flags the guy who got rammed as a TKer and then as crashing so THEY get crew locked AND a TK AND have to pay the repair bill of the person who did the ramming, who is flagged as getting TKed and therefore gets no crew lock, no repair bill and is free to join another match immediately to repeat the process.

I’ve had issues where I get rammed and get kill credit. Spaghetti code at its finest

My friend, “ARB” is a very strange way to write “the entire game” in the title.

sure Crewlocks are bad in ARB but I’d argue it’s just as bad in modes with lineups, since the basic idea is “you left without using your entire lineup! I’ll force you to not be able to use your entire lineup, that’ll teach you!” which to put it bluntly is braindead.

Just remove the feature entirely until they can come up with a reasonable alternative such as making enemy planes phase through each other for the first 5 minutes of a match to stop ramming or in GRB, ykno…making maps worth playing. Just my take :)

Not entirely removed, but partially for the cases where it’s really frustrating. In my sense it should not crew lock if an opponent gets the reward because it indicates you didn’t crash early just to leave an uptier, and probably wanted to fight. It should only be kept if you crash/bail-out without rewarding anyone or if you leave the match without spawning.
Obviously connection-related deaths should also not cause crew lock, but I doubt Gaijin will ever bother fixing that

Oh, you didn’t spawn your SPAA after losing your main tanks early just to sit there for ten minutes with no air targets? I guess you don’t get to use it in the next match!

It’s just as stupid in ground RB. It’s absolute rot, which doesn’t truly prevent any issues, and just makes the already questionable experience of playing this game even worse for regular players.

Bots in GRB only run one tank premium lineups so they’re essentially immune because they just die once. Anyone who’s willing to leave the game because of an uptier is going to do so anyway and will take the time on the chin without caring.

With these new mechanics being added that if you crash or J out and an enemy gets kill credit in these circumstances crew lock absolutely should not be applied, but it still is. It is an archaic feature of this game that needs to be removed. Gaijin cries all the time about queue times but they literally stop you from playing the game if you crash when in a dog fight. Make it make sense dude.

also got crew locked due to my internet randomly cutting out. (skill issue, perhaps? although an ethernet cable connected to a powerline unit is the most stable configuration i’m getting without tearing the walls down :/)

I hope Nuclear Escalation leavers get a whole hour of crewlock :D
