Crafting Events, Why We Need Them Back !?

The last traditional Crafting Event in War Thunder was “Tokushu Heiki: Assemble and test an honorable missile,” held in September/October 2023.

With it, we also lost a huge amount of GJC (Gaijin Coins) movement within the internal market. Nowadays, we mostly have vehicles that barely go above $50 or $70 in special cases, while others don’t even reach $30, since current events are simply too easy to complete. Whether you’re using a Wyvern at 4.7/5.7 in Simulator/Realistic Battles or simply playing an Su-30MKK, spamming missiles every match and then returning to the hangar, the process is relatively straightforward.

We’ve become too comfortable knowing that a vehicle simply isn’t worth the effort or the hours required to obtain it. However, this wasn’t the case with the Crafting Events we used to have, because you had to go through a vehicle that you would obtain “for free” during the event, even if you didn’t make it all the way to the main reward.

Then, after that, you could finally obtain the main reward of the event, whether it was a tank or an aircraft, along with the materials required to build it. Some of those items took 20–30 minutes to manufacture, while, if you were lucky enough to obtain reports by finishing first in a match, you could reduce that time to around 10 minutes.

This created a demand for parts, materials, tradable reports, and eventually resulted in a huge BOOM in market sales, with genuinely good prices for the effort you had put into the entire event.

For newer players, this might seem difficult when looking back at that period, especially because the amount of time you spent could vary depending on how patiently you played and whether you managed to finish first on your team.

But if this type of event were to return, don’t be intimidated! There are plenty of content creators who explain how these events work and provide useful tips that can make the learning curve much easier.

You might not get the main reward during your first event… but on your second attempt, you’ll certainly be much better prepared to get your hands on something that actually feels worth the effort and who knows, maybe something that can also be worth a good amount on the game’s internal market.

Why I Would Like to See Them Return

After playing War Thunder for so many years, I would like to see events return that make players feel like they are building and achieving something, rather than simply filling up a progress bar.

Crafting Events could return with a different philosophy:

less obligation, more progression;
less repetition, more objectives;
less burnout, more sense of reward.

It doesn’t have to be the same system from 2023.

It could be Crafting 2.0.

But I believe completely removing this type of event also removed one of the most interesting forms of temporary progression War Thunder has ever had.

For players who have been playing for many years, events like these weren’t just another way to obtain vehicles.

They were part of the War Thunder experience.

I would like to see them return. They motivated me to learn about maps and positions so I could finish first on my team, and bringing these events back would make a lot of players happy!

Let me know what you think about this. I’ll be paying attention to your opinions, even if I don’t respond to them immediately.

I don’t really know how to put it, but the old events were definitely way more interesting. They were still felt grindy for sure, but somehow they were less tedious.

One thing I really respected was that they let you play whichever mode you wanted. For example, I don’t really like Air Battles, but with the old system I could still grind the event by playing tanks. Now, if there’s an air event, I can’t progress it with tanks, and vice versa.

I also feel like the old events had more effort put into them from Gaijin’s side. The rewards were generally much better, and even though the grind could be rough, you could at least get the vehicle coupon easier.

It almost feels like they’ve lowered the cost of getting the vehicle itself, but massively increased the cost and effort required to get the tradable coupon.

Bring them back

For terminally online people who spend their entire day everyday playing, sure.

Can’t say I would have expected to hear it different from someone who has “Oni-chan” on their username though.

Current events are awful
But crafting was even worse than the new ones.

‘Too easy to complete’
I never knew that could be awful. /s

Unfortunately some people didnt get vaccinated against job, study or personal life so its not easy for them.

The only good war thunder event I can think of is gambling crates. You boot up game, you deposit your sl, you win/lose. Without fomo garbage and having to work like on actual work.

Also custom ones like vietnam sead, nuclear escalation, black thursday etc… They offer something other than standart gameplay loop and I like it. Those are ones that gaijin should focus on imo. So each event is unique experience and not another grindfest.

Post for the unemployed.

Spoiler

When I was in school and could play whenever I want I barely got the main reward event, while the second main reward was impossible to also get it. Now I have to work and its hard to do the current 45k score

No. never again they fkin sucked.

the grind hell that events are now is far more tolerable. than what crafting events were

GOOD

Vehicles being more than $20 is stupid, the marketplace is crappy and predatory, the vehicles should just become GE premiums after events and not something for people to get fake internet money (that you cant even take out of the walled garden) to buy more pixels on the screen. gaijin market people need to take a shower and touch grass.

dont grind it then. dont bother with events if you dont care

45,000 mission score is not “easy to get” either. Some of us have lives away from WT

The current events are fucking trash, but not because we need crafting events back. We need more vehicles in the current one + they need to get cheaper. Only nolife soulless sweat lords can grind 45k points every two days.

Exactly, I love managing billion types of resources, MANUALLY putting them through 10 stages of manufacturing hell. You either had to do it after EVERY GAME or alternatively spent LEGIT about AN HOUR OR TWO manufacturing parts from all the resources you collected right before event ends.

Or buying stuff with an unholy amount of money
