this is just wrong the somua has 200mm of armor all around while Surbaisse has on like a 133-90 mm of armor you also have a slower reload for only like 30mm more pen

the somua SM is very good but by no means OP. French ground players are also cracked
its fine as is, dont punish good players for others having skill issues

In my opinion, Somua SM needs a damage model rework, nothing much crazy but not only the turret armor but the modules makes it not very easy to one-shot the vehicle. Even the Maus by hitting the ammunition stowage can be destroyed with a single hit when there’s crew separated by the engine block at the front of the vehicle.
In the case of the Somua SM either it recieves no damage or it’s not enough to destroy the vehicle, the turret necklace is another strong point that got buffed a year ago or so, I can’t complain, buff is a buff and in case of France should not be exception. I don’t agree with people saying “France can’t have nothing good” or something down the line when the battle rating 7.7 line-up is the strongest in-game with or without Somua SM.
filler rounds tend to one tap it for me but you dont have that many high pen filler rounds so its mid soulution its insanely spacey inside so heat and sabo do like nothing
Armor piercing with explosive filler do manage the Somua SM with ease but in a battle rating where it mostly faces chemical or armor piercing only rounds, just makes easier, I mean some rework regarding how it recieve damages, perhaps a rework that affect every other vehicle which I must assume that isn’t going to happen and at the same time a battle rating increase without general decompression is going in the wrong way.

i mean to be fair it is the best performing french 7.7 and its a french premium which is dumb
the amount of times shell shattered or i get one crew member with cents 84mm sabo s driving me insane
it is the best 7.7 french tank 100% however its insane for it to see something like a mk10 chieftain in a full uptier
in a downtier it sees M26 pershings that cant do anything to them so id say its fair

But to be enough, I still don’t see the Somua as an issue, especially when every vehicle at 7.7 is fielding HEATFS.
Not to mention the armour is negligible when you have such a big weakspot, the gun’s armour.
I mean you can almost one shot this thing with M82 (American APHE, 185mm, 2000m range), either at the cupola or around the gun. Not to mention it is absolutely massive. The mobility is nothing amazing, so its just the gun and the reload.
I also don’t think this should even be SEEING 8.0, as a 9.0 uptier puts it against DM33.
Its one of the best 7.7 by far but its a 7.7 tank. There is no brining it up in br. There is nothing to nerf pen wise either nor there is anything to nerf mobility wise.
Yes, this is why I mentioned the turret necklace, it was buffed a time ago and nowadays the most reliable spot to pierce using lower caliber armor piercing ammunition I.e. APDS is a volumetric hell if the average player don’t hit with good accuracy is shatter certainly.

you are suppposed to shoot the turret in both. Anything will go through
as per usual this comes down to a compresion issue. which simply cant be fixed by just moving things up without moving literally everything else up too
not sabot it will shatter and break quite a few sabot rounds will shatter and explode instead of penning and some spots it will not pen even though its got the pen
Dont use sabot if they suck. Most apds above 8.0 will hve decent post pen damage and angled performance to lolpen the hull

no they dont and the ones that do have either alternatives or just good sabots
