Apparently only one aircraft was fitted in Vietnam but that’s more than enough as it required no modification to the aircraft and therefore it could have been carried by all of them.
Of course why would you? 7.62mm, even M134 x2 isnt going to add very much, in a WT battle unlike a SUU-16 or similar 20mm.
That would be hilarious, the F-102 would be an amazing event vehicle or even premium somewhere around 9.3
Falcons would ofc be far more practical and effective armament but the idea of this super high performance interceptor equipped with 7mm machine guns is just so funny, it’d be the best meme vehicle
Sorry, do you have further information on the performance of the Aim-4? It seems quite sparse and most of it is just people saying it’s bad stemming from the testimony you reference.
I remember the AIM-4s having a long warmup time. As much as it might suck, maybe the old missile delay (from start to launch) or similar would be applicable here.
The number crunching section make for interesting reading considering the usual narrative is that the AIM-4 was completely useless and Vietnam experience proved it beyond doubt. The missile certainly had its issues (contact only fuse, warm up time, limited coolant ) but it was designed for a very different task to its competitors and was asked to perform duties it simply wasn’t suited for.
