I feel like there is a major flaw/opportunity in terms of controller drone control settings. Right now the default drone controls when you plug in a controller (e.g. PS5) are a clunky replica of simple ‘horizon’ control scheme at best (reset to center when sticks are let go) .
On top of possibly looking to fix the clunkiness , I really think adding an ‘acro’ control mode (alike those of real FPVs) would make it a lot easier for people with and without drone experience alike to fly them. It would add more control and fidelity to the actual controlling and add a little bit of skill expression (all while still bound to the drones flight performance).
Acrobatic FPV controls can be pretty simply explained; When you input your roll (usually Right Horizontal) the drone changes its roll continually as you input right and stays at the angle it got to when you reset to the middle.
(e.g. I hold right horizontal to pitch 45 degrees left, and when I let and the stick resets to its natural position, my drone still holds 45 degrees, without increasing or decreasing that roll).
This is similar to the helicopter ‘lock roll’ option in game and as that is already implemented, it should be simple to port over to the other axis on a drone.
Here’s a demo in “FPV.SkyDive” with the often used PS5 controller, with what I am inputting on my sticks at the bottom:
I feel like not including this is incredibly hindering controller players by making the drones artificially more difficult to control but also just missing out on a really fun possibility that might attract a lot of people to the game, even if it is limited.
I think this should be seriously looked into for the full release of infantry. Thanks for your time.
Note: this cannot be currently obtained with the ‘relative control’ setting, as that makes the drone continually pitch/roll/yaw in that direction even after the stick is reset.
